I thought it was mildly funny, so, it appeared, did Robert Rinder.”

I don't think the "Here's how to vote" segments are there to contribute to the programmes. They are there to fuflil an OFCOM requirement to give terms and conditions for voting. I applaud the attempts (if not always the outcomes) to try to make them entertaining.

It doesn't matter if Rinder thought it was funny or not. Just because he laughed (pretending or not) doesn't mean that other people can't find it offensive.

I found it offensive, no different to a racist joke if you ask me. We either accept all kinds of jokes or none at all.

As a Gay man who has been out for over 30 years, i can't say that i found it particularly offensive, it just wasn't funny. Just a bit like watching a bad 'Carry On' joke that went on a bit too long.

Groups of gay men use much more homophobic humor between themselves (think about the Julian Clary & Norman Lamont thing) . But a joke not being funny doesn't make it homophobic.

Plus the thought of Robert Rinder being after anyone's arse is just weird! I don't think that anyone would think that he's ever 'topped'.

What is wrong with people now, no sense of humour. I thought Peter Kaye was great and he had everyone laughing.

People will complain about anything these days and probably wet themselves with excitement of pushing the Ofcom button that they have got on speed dial. I think there would have been more of a on screen outrage if Will Young was in Rinder's place. I could be wrong but I very much doubt that Will would have had a similar humour of it.

Agreed. I have to say I quite look forward to seeing what madness they're going to come up with next for the T&Cs.

I laughed too, but then I wondered if is right to imply that a gay man can't keep his hands to himself when near to a straight man? I'd love to hear Rinder's answer to that. (That's me asking a question, by the way, not “going mad.”)

The problem is that there are some people who are wanting to be offended and look to complain wherever they can.

There is real honest to goodness homophobic behaviour going on in this world some peope need to get into the real world!

Sums up my thoughts too.

Didn't see this on Strictly but I do hate the fact that political correctness ( clumsy wording) has got such a bad name out of this and any other kind of behaviour that may or may not cause genuine offence.

For political correctness I think we should read 'treating people with respect' and it should be a concept that is treasured.

If we took the PC gloves off or should I say the treating people with respect gloves off,the flood gates for all kind of idiotic, shameful and shaming behaviour would be opened and it would be like the period immediately after Brexit ( 41% spike in reported hate crime) .

Being PC ( treating people with respect) keeps everyone aware and the idiots in check....ultimately it will lead to decent and respectful behaviour becoming the cultural norm where racist sexist and homophobic behaviour jars horribly with everyone's sensibilities and standards of what is acceptable and even children would grow up finding that kind of behaviour abnormal and unacceptable and also a rare occurence....good thing no?

In the meantime lets keep our sense of humour but not at the expense of treating people with respect which is what PC should be all about.....no more and no less.

I get that some people will find it in bad taste but not because it was aimed at Judge Rinder, what if it had been one of the females behind him?

For goodness sake guys get over it - it may have been in poor taste but homophobic............. please!!!!

I'm quite impressed Kaye found a new joke this decade.

WRT the Beeb reporting every story with a PC angle, it seems the Sun and Express broke the story mentioning homophobia first.

It's just desperate hacks spinning stories off Twitter because journalism is dead.

The point is why did Kay single out Rob Rinder .

The verbal part of the joke doesn't *work* if it's a woman. "The case is closed m'lud" - meaning "you can't **** me in the arse".

Similarly I doubt Peter would have tried the same joke with Will Young!!
He's been in the business long enough to know who to 'target' for maximum laughter value & you could see Rinder loved it & thought it was hilarious, as did I!!

There are some comedians whose whole act depends on purposely being offensive about/to others, Peter Kay certainly isn't one of them!!

Probably because it was scripted that way

Every time a homophobic joke has to be explained a drag queen loses her platform shoe (a la Cinderella). Sad, isn't?

You'll have to explain to me sometime how assuming that the good 'judge' is too cowed and wimpy to make his own objections to anything which he finds offensive and must therefore rely on the professionally offended to do the job for him represents treating him with respect! As long as PC is principally about being offended on other people's behalf, censorship, and special treatment of allegedly vulnerable groups it cannot possibly further the cause of acceptance one jot or tittle. Like all repressive movements it will simply lead to growing resentment and a sense of injustice that can only be expressed in explosions. Far from being the cure for the post-Brexit burst of hate crimes PC is one of its major causes!

There's more people complaining about the offended than were offended in the first place!

Exactly, this is a rubbish clickbait article based off nothing but a few tweets. No one with any sense was genuinely offended by the joke and the press needs to stop making out a couple of oversensitive snowflakes are representative of the majority of gay people.
