Not everyone knows, realises or cares that the results show is filmed on Saturday night.

Regardless of when it is filmed, everyone involved in a show of this type knows when it will be broadcast.

That means that the participants will happily cry 'Merry Christmas' in May. 'Happy Easter' in November. 'Happy New Year' in August (of the previous year). And 'see you next week' when they're about to film next week's show in the next five minutes.

It would be utterly ludicrous to refer to 'tonight' throughout a show which everyone knows is going to be screened tomorrow.

If the Sunday show were to start with Tess announcing "We've had a great night here in Blackpool tonight... earlier on tonight [resume of the dances]" it would not only be ludicrous, it would be confusing to the many people who don't know, realise or care that the results show is filmed on the Saturday night.

The confusion wouldn't ease as the show progressed and 'tonight' started to cover the things that had been broadcast on the Saturday and the things which had only been broadcast on the Sunday night...

If those who complain about references to 'last night' are on a guerrilla campaign to have all programmes state the date they were recorded, and refer throughout to 'today 25 March 2016 - Merry Christmas' or 'tonight Saturday 19 November 2016 - here are the results of the dance off which will be broadcast on Sunday 20 November 2016''...

All I can say is "Hell, no!"

Sorry, Paace - there are multiple threads on DS, over many years, which suggest that the answer to the 'Who cares?' question is......

Some DS forum members.

I don't think anyone has ever said that it is live ever, or pretended it is.

What part of the show makes you think they are pretending it is live? Referring to the earlier live show as "yesterday" or "Saturday" instead of "a few hours ago", well in the chronology of the broadcast that is perfectly logical. Same as when on pointless they refer to "yesterday you got to round two now you're in the final" guess what, it was probably less than an hour ago and not yesterday. This "pretence" is as old as recorded TV, indeed our old mate Brucie used to mock it relentlessly with his "you're so much better than last week" jape to the play your cards right audience (and before that even).

So if you are unable to cope with watching a pre recorded television program, that is your issue to cope with and not theirs.

And yes, some parts of the Saturday show are also recorded (the pro dance at the start and all the training video interludes etc.)

When it changed in series five, it was a case of "last night" etc., until the press got hold of it. Then the BBC, "the little loves," bleated that they never actually said it was live.
But they've carried on as if it were ever since, but are careful not to say "last night" any more.

I don't think it's a problem, just amusing that they like to keep on with the charade.
A change of outfit for Tess and Claudia, just emphasises the pretence.

I did ask the question earlier, whether they move the audience around like they do when they record three episodes of "A Question of Sport" in one session with the same people watching. I guess it's too much of a bother.

Regarding showing the results on Saturday, there are also issues with the start time of Match of the Day which contractually has to start by 10.30 (the only exception being for the Festival of Remembrance). Given they have to have 20 mins for news and try to fit the Lottery in somewhere, even aside from the complaints of X-Factor clashes and so on, it makes the scheduling really difficult.

Personally I can't think of anything else which would draw the viewers in on a Sunday in the numbers that the results show gets, so I can't see it changing.

It ain't broke, so no need to fix it, same with the current presenters.

Amazingly, some "newspapers" still act as though they have a scoop when some trivia emerges that they can claim proves that the results show is not live - a recent case of Len's watch illustrates this - with mock outrage.

Wonder why they don't do the same at Christmas over the programmes that were recorded months ago.

Exactly. I find it ridiculous and rather patronising to the tv audience.

What makes me laugh is when you see the audience all sitting in the same seats they sat in "the night before" and wearing the same clothes. Maybe they should now show the audience.

I don't know how the pro dancers and celebs remember to mention the right night when talking about the dance off and who left etc. In fact there have been a couple of times when one of them has accidentally said "Saturday" when talking about the results show and Zoe always quickly tries to cover it up and looks a bit embarrassed.

As it's a recorded show, if the BBC were in any way bothered, they could re- record that bit or even omit it completely. They'll record far more than they use.

I still can't figure out why some people are so bothered. It's like they think the BBC are trying to take them for fools or something. They really aren't and the fact that some people truly believe they might be is a bit...precious.

It's filmed on Saturday to go out on Sunday. They refer to last night because they are talking in the context of the people watching it, not them filming it. What's the big deal?

The big bad BBC aren't trying to make a fool out of you, honest!

You're so right.
A lot of people are quite capable of making fools of themselves without the assistance of the BBC
