This makes me very happy and very relieved in a weird sort of way !

Twice in the past week my 6s has shut down when i've had the battery on 25% and today when it was on 29%.

Looks like i could be one of the affected few - has anyone else had any problems ?

Checked my girlfriends iPhone 6s serial number via their web chat and they said:
"I am showing that your device may be eligible. I would like for you to visit an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to have your device serviced!"

However she hasn't (yet) reported any battery/switch off issues. The phone was bought on 1st Oct 2015.

Checked mine today after for the first time it shut down at 55% battery! Restarted after plugging it in to my power bank for a couple of minutes, still going now at 19%.

Checked my serial number online on a non - Apple site and it said my 6s was made in the last week of August - hope that doesn't mean I've missed out on the battery replacement by a measly week! Will contact Apple tomorrow, hopefully it's eligible.

Just been on live chat with them and they've verified that my phone is definitely one of the affected ones so i qualify for the free battery.

Rather weirdly, I had another problem with my old 5s as well and got a free battery for that .. i must be cursed

Just a pain that my local store is booked solid for the next 6 days for repairs.

You would think so but I guess it depends on manufacture date, I assume plenty of devices get manufactured ahead of launch and probably several months prior.
Also the Apple page with the replacement scheme details does say they cover 6s's for 3 years after purchase date for this issue so I'm thinking of holding out until it does present itself as an issue on her phone or it's ~4months to go to the 3 years and then get a new battery to keep it going longer.

Edit: having also checked a non-apple site it's showing up as 17th-23rd Aug as manufacture date.

Mine showed as being manufactured a week after yours Gavin - just been chatting with Apple support and my 6s is eligable for a replacement battery so yours might well be too.

They're sending me the packaging out 'in a few days' to send in my iPhone so will be without it for a while but should be worth it. I've suspected the battery on it for a while, it was draining much quicker and sometimes in quite large leaps whilst using it and when playing Pokemon Go - I know that game is a battery hog but it was draining much quicker than my old 6 did.

My 6s Plus has unexpected shut downs, especially in cold weather (5 to 8 C). It has been mentioned on Reddit from neb120 that:
"Eligible iPhone 6s serial numbers will have these characters in the 4th and 5th position: Q4 Q5 Q6 Q7 Q8 Q9 QC QD QF QG QH"

I have booked an appointment with Apple Genius Bar and hopefully they can get it repaired without too much hassle.

I sure hope so, that if they send it to the depot, they give me a loan device! Can't stay again without a smartphone for 14 days again, just like a couple of months ago when they sent it in the depot to replace the screen due to dead pixels under warranty.

I thought that the recall was for the 6s not the 6s Plus which has a different (bigger) battery. As mine is covered under AppleCare until April 2018 I would expect Apple to contact me if I am eligible.

It isn't a recall. It is a repair programme announced by Apple for a small number of devices. There are reports online that 6s Plus is also covered if you have one of the affected serial numbers and I confirmed in their support chat that my device is eligible for a repair.

Apple will not contact anyone. They have made the announcement and consumers who are affected can decide to arrange a repair or not.

Mine was within the dates but Apple say my serial number isn't one of the ones affected, so don't just go off the date.

This exact problem happens to my iPhone 6 . What should I do? It frustrates me so much, it dies at around 30/40% every day and i have to keep plugging it in every time it "dies". When it's back on it'll still be at about 30% and didn't actually "die" at all.

Sounds like you need a new battery. If you bought direct from Apple and it's less than 2 years old try your local Apple Store for a free replacement, if you bought elsewhere or it's more than 2 years old a battery replacement by Apple is around £70 iirc.

This is a disgrace. Apple charge so much for their phones and yet can't even make them go randomly on fire. Just a very small number shut down. Pathetic. I need a phone that will set me on fire while I'm asleep, not just turn itself off.

I've emailed Donald Trump about this.

That's a fault - my (recent) 6S can fall to 1% charge - and sit there for a surprising number of minutes - before cutting out.

I did have one of the "known faulty" iPhone 5's once. There the phone would cut out at any random time below ~20%

My 6s is one of the first batch so I'm guessing it is covered in the replacement programme.

I only had the battery issue very recently running on the current iOS 10.1.1 so generally speaking no problem with the phone for over a year. It was only a problem when I switched the phone off at night with battery level 30-40% remaining, then the next morning switched phone back on it will load up to the home screen then switched itself off with no battery symbol. The phone will not turn on unless I plug the charging cable in then it will switch itself on and batttery level still showing as 30-40% range. It was like the phone needed a jump start. This problem only happened a couple of times recently.

Now the thing is the phone doesn't have the fault anymore, the other day iTunes offered me an update for 10.1.1 but my phone was already on 10.1.1 updated via OTA. Anyhow I still updated the phone via iTunes and the battery issue has not occurred again.

I had that same thing. the phone was fine when I updated OTA but to avoid the naggin on iTunes I did an update on the pc at the weekend and noticed on Monday evening the battery was draining like crazy. called apple yesterday and they said I'm in the first batch so to see a store. I updated to the beta 10.2 firmware and I'm still having the same problems. I'm not sure if it's maybe a particular app like facebook that's causing the problems as that had an issue before. the apple guy connected to my phone over the internet to run a diagnosis and said my phone may be affected. it had been perfectly fine before the weekend though. I've never had the shutdown unless the battery is well under 10%

Weird, they did the battery diagnostics test on mine and told me the battery looked fine, yet its turned off at 40-50% a few weeks back. Hard to tell whether its software or the battery, but all i can say is, i never had a battery issue on ios 9 or when ios 10 first came out.

Anyhow ive ordered and received by box to send mine off but i wont be sending it yet because Apple told me they wont have batteries in stock until the 15th of December! so no point sending it now...............

If anyone has had their phones battery replaced and got the phone back, can you report back and let us know if the issue is resolved and if the battery life is any better?

It'll be interesting to see when I get my phone back if they've no batteries till 15th December! Would be a bit naughty of them to have omitted to tell me that information when I sent my 6s off.
