Now the thing is the phone doesn't have the fault anymore, the other day iTunes offered me an update for 10.1.1 but my phone was already on 10.1.1 updated via OTA. Anyhow I still updated the phone via iTunes and the battery issue has not occurred again.
The assumption is the newer 10.1.1 fixes a problem installing 10.1.1 if you are on an older version. Anyone on 10.1.1 doesn't need the update, but since it is seen as newer iTunes offers it, in case you are wiping your phone from scratch.

This exact problem happens to my iPhone 6 . What should I do? It frustrates me so much, it dies at around 30/40% every day and i have to keep plugging it in every time it "dies". When it's back on it'll still be at about 30% and didn't actually "die" at all.
Mine too pretty poor of apple not to offer a fix as this has only started after installing iOS 10.

Got an Appointment on Thursday @ the Birmingham Apple store. Took a few days just for one to become available so hopefully they change the battery round. Mine keeps turning off around 35-40%. Last week it even died at 50-55% a few times.

Might let it die on Thursday while I'm at work so when they plug it in and it comes up 40% left, they'll realise I'm not joking.

It'll be interesting to see when I get my phone back if they've no batteries till 15th December! Would be a bit naughty of them to have omitted to tell me that information when I sent my 6s off.
Can you remember the address on the plastic bag? Mine says Lutterworth. So maybe yours is going somewhere else that happens to have stock. If it's Lutterworth then you could be in for abit of a wait!

If you go to the Apple site you can track your repair, it will tell you whether or not they've looked at it or shipped it back etc.

Failing that ring Apple and ask them.

After my appointment with the Genius Bar yesterday it has been confirmed that only iPhone 6s units are covered under this repair programme. NOT the 6s Plus.

The issues with unexpected shut downs that I had occured mostly when I was out in cold weather, but not extremely cold (around 5 C).

The Genius replaced my iPhone 6s Plus with a brand new unit under UK consumer law, even though I was out of Apple warranty by about a month.
Such good customer service!

If you're getting shutdowns, maybe they shouldn't just ignore the issue because it isn't widespread?

My Nexus 6P was switching off at anything between 5-20% and Google had no issue sending me a new one by courier and giving me 14 days to return the old one.

Admittedly, I did have to go through a process of declaring that I'd done a reset (and as it happens, I had not so long ago done so, so there wasn't even any need to lie) and answer a few other questions, but the process still only took about 15 minutes on a Sunday morning.

The new phone arrived Tuesday AM.

No lies involved in my case. Absolutely honest about the situtation. They also asked if I had done a reset and set up as new, which I had done multiple times since I first started encountering the problem.

Everything was effortless.

I didn't lie either, and my comment was about me perhaps pretending that I'd done a reset when I hadn't simply because a reset wouldn't fix a hardware issue, but they wouldn't authorise unless I had.

I used the Sales of Goods Act some years ago in an Apple Store to get a brand new battery for a MacBook Pro (remember when you could change them? Boy was that so much easier for all concerned) and that too was out of warranty. They first wanted to give me a discount, but I pushed for a 100% discount as the battery had very few charge cycles (which they should see when they ran their diagnostics).

Apple are pretty good if they are the retailer and you quote statutory protection, best I've had is a 22 month old 5 replaced with absolutely no arguments from them.

How does it work if you bought it 2nd hand off eBay and don't know how old it is?

Visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device's serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement

This is such good news as I'm sure my phone battery is faulty as it's just randomally switching off even if it's got a 80% charge. It's been happening for the last few weeks and I just assumed the battery was knackered.

And I did buy my 6S in October 2015

Went to an Apple Store with no appointment to see what the process is on the exchange programme and whilst I was there I asked them to check if my phone is eligible and indeed it is. You will need to book a Genius Bar appointment, if a battery is available on the day then it should be a 2hr turnaround. If no battery is available then they will have to order one for you and you come back on another day.

Got my 6S back today with a replaced battery, exactly a week after sending it off. Done a restore, charged it up and so far no problems. Pretty good considering their battery shortage and increased demand, very pleased with their customer service.

Good to hear. Let us know after a few days how it's going and what sort of useage/standby times your getting

Now you can check for yourself if your phone is eligible.

got mine done at the local apple store yesterday actually. took about an hour all told and everything going nicely. left the store yesterday at 4pm with it at 75% and it's now only down to 9% which is nice

Probably going to let it drain out completely before recharging though.

Although literally as i just clicked "Post", i got a text and started to reply to it and the phone died ..

Plugged it in and it's straight back to 11% from 9%. Hhhmmmmm ...

I wonder how you would fare getting Apple to replace these dodgy batteries if you have any damage to your phone, screen crack etc

It does state at the bottom of their support page:

Note: If your iPhone 6s has any damage such as a cracked screen which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair.

So sounds like you'd need to pay for the screen repair for them to replace the battery. Makes sense to me that they wouldn't risk putting back in a broken screen.

so far it's doing much better than it did - lasting much longer and not draining as fast when playing Pokemon Go, generally getting through the day without needing a top-up charge which it needed before. Will check the usage settings once it's run down a bit more.

Had the same issue myself yesterday on my 5, said it was the red on 9% but when I connected the charger it went straight up to 40%.

Went to the Birmingham store on Thursday. Waited 15mins past the Appointment time until someone came along. Wiped my phone as I waited as the email asked.

Asked about replacing the handset but they said no due to it just being a battery issue. Anyways, told there was no batteries until 5-12th of December so I'll have to come back in a week or so.

Felt like it was a wasted trip though. Took a few days just to get an appointment to begin with. Had to take time off work to go. Wiped my phone. Got told basically to go home and come back in a week or 2.
