Went to the Birmingham store on Thursday. Waited 15mins past the Appointment time until someone came along. Wiped my phone as I waited as the email asked.

Asked about replacing the handset but they said no due to it just being a battery issue. Anyways, told there was no batteries until 5-12th of December so I'll have to come back in a week or so.

Felt like it was a wasted trip though. Took a few days just to get an appointment to begin with. Had to take time off work to go. Wiped my phone. Got told basically to go home and come back in a week or 2.

I'd be very annoyed with that which is why I phoned them first and asked if they had stock of batteries. My local stores were quite hard to get an appointment at, and the Birmingham store said they wouldn't have batteries until a week later so in the end I went with the postal option. But I had to wait until now to send it because they said they won't have any batteries until the 5th Dec, so there was no point sending it off if they didn't have any batteries in stock, I wouldn't have minded but this is my only phone and would have to make do with an old 3GS! So the less time I'm without my 6S the better.

I'll be sending it tomorrow so they should get it by Monday and they said on the phone it's normally around 3-5 days turnaround time.

If I were you I'd do the postal option, saves messing around with work and wasting your time.

It does state at the bottom of their support page:
Note: If your iPhone 6s has any damage such as a cracked screen which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair.
So sounds like you'd need to pay for the screen repair for them to replace the battery. Makes sense to me that they wouldn't risk putting back in a broken screen.
Not being able to afford or want the expense of a small crack in your screen repaired could mean being left with a defective product. Not sure I'd be happy with that.

I wonder how you would fare getting Apple to replace these dodgy batteries if you have any damage to your phone, screen crack etc
The same as most other mobile makers. You would need to pay to fix the cracked screen before they would consider warranty repairs.

I remember both HTC and Samsung owners getting all indignant and upset when told to pay up in the past before the warranty issue would be addressed, no reason to suspect Apple would be any different.

Apple have confirmed that even though this exact problem has started to happen on my iPhone 6, I'll have to pay for the replacement as it's not a 6S.

I had this with my 6 - it started doing it in March and after several wipes / setting up the phone as a new device at the behest of apple support I eventually managed to get it replaced when I went to a store and showed them the problem.

Apple must know they also have a similar issue with some iPhone 6 phones.

Noticed with my 6s on its return that a pressure mark that was on my screen was also repaired when I had my battery replacement. No mention of this on return paperwork and no extra charges - thanks Apple!

This is why I don't mind paying extra when buying iPhones if you get customer support like this

Sent my 6S off Monday morning, hope to get it back ASAP, using our old 3GS for now, it's awful!! Lol

Exactly, I've had a few positive experiences of customer service over the years, not sure if they replaced my screen or if it was simply something like an overtightened screw putting pressure on the screen, either way it was a pleasant surprise!

Had mine repaired today after they emailed to say the part was now in stock. Told me it would take 2 hours. After 2 hours I returned to the store to be told they broke the "battery tabs" and would need to provide a replacement 6S. They were taking photos to send to Apple and advised me to come back in half an hour to give Apple time to approve the replacement. Half an hour later walk away with a new phone. Shame as my old one was a TSMC I'm not sure what this new one is yet. Fingers crossed.

Who cares, you got a shiny new phone

Out of interest, did they give you a brand new phone in the white retail box like you would receive if you were buying it new? Only asking as when we sent off our iPad that was stuck on "connect to iTunes" screen, we got a "replacement" which I heard should be new but it was just in a small white plain box just big enough to fit only the iPad. Didn't get a charger/ear phones etc.

All replacements come as phone only in a small plain box.

Same thing happened to me at the Watford store today got there phone wiped as requested after waiting afew mins and explaining to the guy i was there for a new battery he then told me i had to wait 3-5 days for a replacement i should get an email to inform me when they have some in stock. Luckily for me i also booked an appointment for my mum on Monday and got them to order her a replacement battery too so she doesn't have to wait her time.

I'm still waiting for them to email me with an update. Had the appointment on the 1st in Birmingham, it's now the 10th.....This is my first experience ever using Apple 'customer support' or whatever they call it and I'm not at all impressed. How long does it take to get a few batteries in?

I may call them to vent some frustration, I hope I don't have to ask them for help again after this mess.

I've had to use customer support in the past and to be fair it was ok wasn't anything special. But I would call them up or speak to them on chat see if you can get this solved sooner, i wouldn't be impressed to wait this longer either unless your able to get it done at another Apple Store is one is close by.

Based on my experience i would speak to them or if possible go there earlier and ask the question rather than waste your time.

When you send an iPhone to Apple for repair, they give you a different reconditioned model.

I once bought a brand new iPhone for £799 which developed a fault after only a week. I contacted Apple and asked them if there was any way they could fix my phone rather than send me a reconditioned model and the answer was no. The reason I was asking was because I could have bought a reconditioned iPhone on eBay for much less than I paid.

I had this issue and I was able to get them to send me a brand new replacement. I had to speak to Apple Store Support and not AppleCare though.

I'm taking my MacBook Pro in anyway so it's no big issue if they can't fix it on the spot.

Called their customer service earlier to ask if the B'ham store had any batteries and they said they didn't have access to what parts they have, wtf. What kind of business are these people running??.

I got pretty annoyed at the guy and said it had been 2wks and I wasn't happy with the service. He said I paid for a premium product so was right to have a premium level of customer service but he couldn't do anything.

All he said was I could go into another store near by that may have batteries. Asked him if Solihul had any.....couldn't tell me. Told him there were no appointments but he just said keep trying daily. First time using their terrible customer support, it's just as shoddy as some of the high street retailers.

Ring the store directly and ask.

From recent experience, appointments availability online is different to those book in store. I went into store last week with a booked appointment to order my battery and whilst I was there my colleague whom I was with at the time managed to book an appointment for his 6s in an hour time. We looked at the availability online earlier in the day and none were available for a week.

Booked an appointment online (my store is always booked up 7 days in advance) but seeing it was for the battery issue it gave me an earlier slot.. so handed back the wife's 6S and they had it for two hours and got it back cleaned and with a new touch ID button too as it was playing up

A few days later i took in my 6S+ as it had various issues, walked out with another, Apples Customer care is second to none. However i would say the "geniuses"are getting less customer friendly and more nerdy. Something that was not a reason for being hired in the past... despite most folk thinking thats who they hired. Definitely slipping a little.

went in yesterday morning as i booked an appointment the previous saturday as it took ages to find a slot online. i was surprised how many people were lining up early morning to book an appointment in person. just me and one other at that time had booked a slot so jumped the line. there were 3 other people whilst i was there who had the battery problem. they weren't asked to wipe the phone, they were asked for the passcode to test the phone, no mention of sim. i wiped my phone but forgot about the sim. online it said it usually takes an hour but they said an hour to 90 mins so i came back 2 hours later after shopping and they said they couldn't fix the phone and asked if i was happy with a new one, well of course! they just swapped the sim and gave me the new phone, no box. it came out of a tiny white box that fitted the phone and nothing else

i must have had more wrong with the phone as recently it stopped charging with certain cables, so i pulled out the original cable that i never used and was still in the box and that didn't work, whilst cheap ebay/poundland ones did. but the new phone works ok with the same cables

incidentally poundland have 2 metre cables that charge and sync with the PC although the box says charge by adapter only. guess how much? personally i find the longer cables handy for my setup with desktops so i can use the sockets at the back and keep them plugged in all the time
