Hi All,

Please support the petitions to save wildfire! The only truely voice activated voicemail system available in the UK!!

They say they are shutting it down as it's numbers are dwindling, which is small wonder as they stopped letting people subscribe to it 2 years ago!

They say that users can switch to the traditional voicemail system at no extra cost.. Which is interesting as wildfire users paid money to uprade from it in the first place!

They say it will be just as easy to use.. Tell that to the hundreds of visually impaired people who use Wildfire to make calls, manage contacts and generally stay in touch. Also tell the thousands of people who use wildfire in the car, to keep the fingers and eyes away from the phone..

Petitions:

Campaign in the News..

http://www.theregister.com/2005/05/13/orange_wildfire/

Whether you are an orange customer with wildfire who doesn't want to see it go, an orange customer who wants wildfire or a customer of another network who'd be interested in this kind of service. Please help out by signing both petitions and having your say!

Thanks in advance!

D

Work there?

According to Orange, they are phasing it out now and are doing so because of a decline in numbers.. No mention of them not taking anymore users on their letters/correspondence with the media...

Yeah I work there.
Wildfire like I said was only available to customer that had it applied umteen years ago. So say if you had it on your account in 1998 then you still would have it. But if you asked for it in 2002 then it would be too late.

I got it activated in 2004 after nagging. So, looks like someone has called your bluff!

Judging by Skip's geographical location, I guess he works in the support side of orange and they are usually as poorly informed as the rest of us.. So I'm not surprised by this.. What do you do there Skip?

When I had an Orange contract I had wildfire when it was first released.

It was crap then, it never recognised what you were saying, did they improve it much?

Well, thats why you have to spend over an hour usually doing recognition techniques by saying certain words with her, and she starts to recognise your voice.

Tedious, but it means you have an easier conversation with her in the end for all future calls.

I asked about Cow.

As for training her voice recognition, I am sure I used to get charged for calling her, an hour would have cost a bit back then too (I was on student money then).

If I remember right, I even had to pay to change my Orange voicemail over to this wildfire thing. Did they still charge for it up until it's demise?

Yes, I got suckered into Wildfire when it first came out. You had to pay a £10 one-off fee (£11.75 inc. VAT) to activate it. I was also on a One-2-One OVP tariff so I got free calls to Wildfire.

I persevered with it for about 9 months and then I had to get rid of it - it was starting to get so bad, that I couldn't work with my Voicemails any more and so I constantly found myself using the keypad overrides.

I'm glad that Wildfire has been canned. It was blx.
