Don't know Joel well enough yet - when he and Martin had the heart to heart and Joel was making sympathetic noises to what Martin was saying was he being genuine or not? Martin certainly believed he was, but something in his manner made me unsure whether he was actually thinking something else entirely.

Ha, he was so lying.

I still like him though.

I think Joel seems like someone who just wants everyone to get on. I didn't know much about him before he was on this show but he comes across as pretty genuine.

Shaking his head 'no' while saying 'yes'.

Bit of a giveaway.

Martin needed the tummy tickle though.

Joel does a good insincere face.

Personally I think he's a bit up himself. I noticed him refer to Adam as 'our Northern friend' as though he'd never come into contact with a person like Adam before and as if Adam may as well have been an exhibit in a zoo to him.
Of course up until this point you acknowledge that everyone has different accents, but Joel was referring to Adam as if he was a bit 'other'.

Yes, it is one thing to say you agree with someone to make them feel better when you don't really, but I got the sense he was actually taking the mick and laughing at him, while Martin was totally oblivious. Am I wrong? Anyone familiar with him or his act to know what he is usually like?

I don't think he was being sincere, but I don't think he was taking the mick and laughing at Martin.

He seems ok...ish, I would prefer it if he just spoke normally instead of to me, always needing to do a comedy routine in the shack.

He was blowing smoke up Martin's arse, lets see what happens when our Southern friend drops the act

When we talk to someone in a friendly way although wouldn't choose to go drinking with them we are just being sociable.
When they do it with people they are stuck with for 24/7 it's apparently being fake and lying.
