I'm making a Christmas playlist on mobile phone to play in December right now mainly picking the songs from Now That's What I Call Christmas. There are 4 Christmas tunes I've decided to blacklist though though which I don't like all that much. Here is the ones I have left.

1. Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
2. Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody
3. Cliff Richard - Mistletoe And Wine
4. The Spinners - The Twelve Days Of Christmas

How many have you banned personally?

Last year I made a conscious decision to avoid "Xmas Wrapping" and "Fairy Tale of New York" as I'd heard them so many times

Don't think there's anything I'm avoiding this year

I've got three different Christmas CD's on my phone. These aren't so much banned, as I just hit play and let it run, but I certainly skip these songs - among others - if/ when they come on:
East 17 - Stay
John Lennon - Happy Xmas
Any 'easy listening', e.g. Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Andy Williams etc
Destiny's Child - Twelve Days Of Christmas
Elton John - Step Into Christmas
The Darkness - Don't Let The Bells End

It's not exhaustive; there's a lot of filler on those CD's. If I don't recognise it almost immediately, it gets skipped.

I've just bought the latest Now That's What I Call Christmas album today and I noticed there are no Cliff Richard songs on for this year like their previous albums.

I have 6 Christmas CDs that I made for the car last year - yes, 6 - and there are also many Christmas and winter-themed songs on my ipod, but you won't find:

East 17 - Stay. I didn't like it when it was out and it hasn't grown on me.

"Mistletoe and Wine" or "Saviour's Day." I've nothing against Cliff and like a lot of his earlier work but again I never liked either song.

Band Aid II, Band Aid 20 and Band Aid 30's versions of "Do They Know It's Christmas." The original will always be the best.

Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone. Like the Cliff ones I'm just not a fan of this song but I like some of Shakey's other hits.

Coldplay - Christmas Lights. This song does nothing for me; it's elevator music!

Mud - Lonely This Christmas. With so many actual Elvis Christmas songs to choose from, who needs this really?

Pretty much the ones I always blacklist:

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard
Merry Xmas Everyone - Slade
All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey
Any version of Band Aid other than the original
Stay Another Day - East 17 (this isn't even a Christmas song, it's actually about suicide according to Wikipedia )
The Darkness' one
Step Into Christmas - Elton John
Cliff Richard's Christmas songs

I would blacklist Fairytale of New York but my parents like it so it's kinda impossible to avoid it this time of year Instead I'll go on Youtube and make a playlist of less well-known Christmas songs.

I ban all of Cliff Richard's Christmas stuff especially that bollox known as millennium prayer. Bony M is also banned. I don't play that nonces "Another rock n roll Christmas", but as it is such a great song, I do play the Iron Maiden version.

Yes the Now company have brought out a Christmas album for these years:

1985 (Had It On Lp Christmas 2008 But Got Lost When Moving House In 2009) [White]
2000 (Was My Dad's But I ended Up With It) [Blue With Gold Label]
2005 [Picture Of Snow And Santa Flying Over Now Xmas]
2006 (Got This One) [Green Now Xmas]
2009 [Orange Now Xmas]
2010 [Dark Blue Now Xmas]
2012 [Red Now Christmas]
2013 (Downloaded This One) [Purple Now Christmas]
2015 (The One I Just Bought) [Blue Now Christmas]

There is a vinyl coming out on 25th November 2016 of course which is a similar design to the original one but only 12 tracks this time.

I like the newer versions, such as from some years ago:

(To the tune of Slade)

Are you waiting for the family to arrive?
Are you sure that some of them are still alive?
You don't see them for a whole year
Then they come and drink your booze

I'm going to Scotland - bo**ox to rellies, I would rather get so canned that I need two days off at New Year.

Plenty of predictable complaining about Cliff's Christmas records but I bet there is one that you have all overlooked and it's one of his best singles. It was a hit at Christmas in 1982, so will soon be seen on the BBC4 repeats of TOTP 1982 and it's this very good, credible Christmas song that was a decent sized hit but is not overplayed and overheard;

Little Town - https://youtu.be/rqOmuVSCPyY

Just think if he'd been prosecuted... Every single Christmas CD ever made suddenly could not be played. (I'm glad he was cleared though )

Oh dear What happened? Has it been a bad year? I kinda feel the same. 2016 has been a horrible year for me. I haven't been able to secure a PhD supervisor and my favourite lecturer no longer speaks to me. I'm not really bothered about Christmas and would prefer to hibernate til it's time for college again.
