His sales technique was obviously lacking not just in the call centre!

I agree, and although two or three of those would be affected (naturally) by depression, compound it and/or be at the root of it, seven is asking a bit much. I know you mentioned 'making marriage work' but actually getting married is high stressor. Moving home being another.

Surely he should know how to budget as many of us have to or is this wanton disregard of money that he has to pay back going to be bundled into the depression storyline. As much as Mick's a little dense and Linda too suffocating, they seem to be more understanding and sympathetic then say Philth and Shirley although that's not saying much.

The point I'm making is that Lee's dad isn't a nasty, uncaring one so again, the storyline falls down. Lee could confide in Johnny or even Shirl and does have family members who can help.

Yes and it would take a strong actor/actress to get close to pulling it off. Johnny Boy Hatcher may have done well previously will the depression storyline when it hatched and when he got discharged from the army but I don't think he's really got to the level where he can act out a major part where he's probably along with Steve McFadden playing the most pivotal role on the soap right now.

Hope I'm not being harsh in saying they're lumping too much on the actor and that I don't think he can do it justice. As much as everything, I like the storyline around Oz in the call centre.

But that is what a studio flat is. Kitchen, lounge, bedroom all in one, usually small, room with a separate bathroom. Only difference to a bedsit it that it includes a private bathroom rather than sharing one with other residents.

My husband was living in something similar when we first met and it wasn't slum living.

Realistically, that house wasn't large enough for the flats to be any bigger than that if each had their own kitchen and bathroom, especially
When you consider there needs to be communal corridors for the entrances and fire escapes.

There are absolutely loads advertised in areas such as Whitechapel, Aldgate, Bow, Bethnal Green and Stratford and it's handy, accessible and reasonably affordable for City workers where proper flats can't be built.

You're right kitkat, some are nicely decked out and quite comfortable.

It's not as simple as knowing how to budget. Lee knows he isn't earning enough for them to get a flat or even gave the wedding Whitney wanted but his self worth is so low that he feels ge will lose her if he can't give her what he feels she wants and deserves. So he takes ever more desperate measures to give her what she wants (the loan, stealing the money, committing to the flat) without thinking of what will happen next. He is not thinking ahead. Rationality and reasoning don't enter into this. If they did, Lee would be able to see that his family, including Whitney, love him for him, not the job he has or money he earns or home and things he can provide and they would understand and help him if he told them the truth.

But speaking from experience, you can't see tge wood from the trees when severely depressed and not talking to people has little to do with how good or nice a parent, spouse, sibling or friend are. It is about you and only you.

Building up debt is actually a very common.thing with depression.

Everything about this comes back to the depression for me. He's not
Performing well in his job because. He is unsure of himself. He's not standing up for himself in an effective way because his emotions are all over the place. He won't try and get another job because he doesn't think he is capabke of better. He can't talk.to his family because he doesn't want them tosee what he belives to be the truth, that he is a failure. He can't make love to Whitney because he thinks she is out of his league and he doesn't deserve her. It goes on and on.

I think the actor is playing it very well. It's subtle but it's in his body language and eyes.

weird though when you think of it : Lee/Whit a small studio flat & Martin/Stacey a mansion with God knows how many rooms - when Pat and the others lived there, there was always a (fairly) large room for unexpected visitors - so if L/W will be unable to afford theirs, then heaven knows about M/S when left on their own.

Not to be a pedant but bedsits don't have a private bathroom. You have to toddle down the communal hall and share it with the residents in the other bedsits in the building.
