This sounds good to me. Saving Max's return for Christmas Day makes sense. Under DTC I could imagine some kind of hostage situation where Max has Ian locked away in the restaurant or something like that. But hopefully here we will see a dramatic return, but not at the expense of turning Max into a revenge-obsessed lunatic. A darker character, yes, but not a psycho.

Sounds like Christmas this year will be ensemble like last year, which I found fairly good, after 2014 being an hour of the Carter's talking.

I hope it delivers. Max's return is long overdue. He is the for me the biggest character in EastEnders from the past decade.

Apart from that, it's difficult to see where else Max can go as a character. He seemed thoroughly exhausted by the time he left last year. I hope they can push him in a new direction and stop him shagging around.

Exactly. I'm more enthusiastic about Max's return under SOC than I would have been had DTC still been running things. Max jumped the shark when he started banging Lucy Beale, he needed a break. However, the renewed focus on character is a real positive of this new era.
