Exactly. It's a little-known fact that Ed was going to step down before the 2010 election to do Strictly then, but he missed the selection process for 2010 and then heard Lulu was doing it in 2011, and he knew he couldn't compete with her Scottish fanbase. (There are still questions to be answered about who actually arranged that fateful fireworks display...) The producers tipped off him and Milliband about the imminent Rise of the Cliftons and told Balls not to show his hand until they'd been on the show long enough to really get the collective backs of DS posters well and truly up, to make their inevitable - and unprecedented - dead heat for the 2016 glitterball particularly irksome. That whole 'Leader of the Opposition / Shadow Chancellor' malarkey was just the two Eds killing time until the real political endgame was ready to play out.

They knew the rise of Farage and Trump and resurgent worldwide fascism was a risk when left of centre parties ignored the working and disadvantaged classes, but it was a small price to pay. Shame comrade Bruce had to leave before the plan came to fruition

Coincidentally (or not) Labour's MP for Great Grimsby, Austin Mitchell, retired in 2015 having held the seat since 1977. During his time as MP he had overseen the birth and rise of the Cliftons. By 2015 his work was done, in that the plans of the two Eds had been put in place and the groundwork laid for total Clifton domination of Strictly.

I think you might be onto something, I managed to grab this comment before it was deleted:

Hope things are improving for you (I've not had a great week either, but not terrible. However because of that I do sympathise.)

Loved all the follow up posts to my post.

If "he who must not be named" (Eldimort) wins, will the other contestants have a vote of no confidence? Who would become the stalking horse? Shrekvin from Grumblesby? Another mass ballot to follow (to include the cheapskates who just vote online as a special concession), threatened with court action by the joodges, but re-elected with an increased majority.

AM I dreaming? Is SCD in a parallel universe? Or was this deja-vu?

As conspiracy theories go this one's lacking in something.

I'd quite appreciate this rather fiendish scheme if it were true.

Plus I think it would be nice for a Clifton to win, simply to end the anticipation and near misses. Poor Cliftons.

Trump being US president-elect - oh well, we'll just have to see.

One of the Cliftons winning the Glitter Ball - the end of the world is nigh and life as we know it will never be the same again. Kittens and puppies will all die and new-born Lambs will never again gambol in the fields of this green and pleasant land, the pubs will run dry, all the cricket-pitches will be torn up and the sea will turn a fetching shade of purple. That's what's so bad about a Clifton winning!”

A stomach churning thought.

Do you know what, I'd actually feel bad for Kevin if Jo & Ore were to win. There's Kevin, three finals in a row (four, most likely) yet no wins. Then his sister comes along, first time with a non-joke partner, and steals the trophy!

Of course, maybe I'm just basing this on my own experiences of sibling rivalry
