I think we would feel somthing for this storyline if we actually had seen or met Eddie.

I think the point is to touch upon a very prevalent topic and instead of seeing it happen, we are seeing it from the view of other people which is a very rare yet interesting angle to take. Take Denny, he is hardly compassion personified but I found his scene with Phil regarding the football stickers really touching and hopefully goes towards making him a more rounded character rather than just an out and out bully
