AVForums is a large forum similar to Digital Spy but with more of focus on Entertainment technology.
The poster is suggesting that the owners of AVforums were approached by the owners of Digitalspy who said the the forum was closing down in Janurary and as such AVForums might benefit from some targeted advertising to draw users over to the AVForums website. |

It's quite a while since I've been on the AV site, so I thought I'd wander across and have a look. Well, it's like those old films where the introverted librarian, the one wearing spectacles and her hair done up in a bun, throws away the specs, lets her hair down, and becomes a raving beauty! Some change!
I glanced at the Lifestyles forums and it does look like it might have potential for DS General Discussion refugees. Would anyone care to comment from experience there? |

Apparently .... The owners of a well known "tech" forum sent a "Request to Comment" email out to their mods telling them that an established "UK forum" had sent an unsolicited email informing them that they are closing its doors. No names were mentioned (in the post I saw) but it all points to DS.
What was being offered was ridiculous cheap "advertising" by having the "tech forum" mentioned in a banner when people visited the site. The "tech forum" was offered the choice to have its name mentioned either alone (at a higher cost), or with other none tech forums. I have dates. The advert would have been shown in "two weeks" (although I don't know when the email was sent!). I guess this would tie in with a closure announcement. The forum would close on 1st Jan (this does not ring true! businesses close as soon as they know they wont make money, they don't wait for a nice round time). The "advert" would be live for one year while the site is mothballed. Reading between the lines it seems that DS offered to sell the site (but not its name) two months ago. The owners of avforums rejected it In fact you're 'avin a larf my son

How do we know this isn't just the av forums doing some smart sneaky advertising playing on the news about DS supposedly downsizing. They might be trying to create fear and bring people to their site.

Where did he get his information from? Does he have some secret contact in DS or AV? |

Their forums aren't as gossipy for TV stuff as is here. It can be quite hardcore for technology. There isn't even a Strictly Come Dancing/dedicated section like here. Everything goes under TV shows. https://www.avforums.com/forums/tv-show-forum.55/ There is only one thread on Strictly from 2014. Plus if so many are used to no avatars and signatures, AVF will be quite heavy to the eyes if people are used to DigitalSpy. Most might find AVF very nerdy since it can be quite hardcore for all the technology stuff as DigitalSpy feels more like the feeling of down the pub or reading lots of gossip magazines. Their podcasts are very good but again it is talk about technology. New TVs, projectors, speaker/hi-fi systems, consoles, Blu-Ray films and whats currently in the cinemas. https://www.avforums.com/pages/about-us/ |

It isn't as cleanly listed as here. https://www.avforums.com/forums/
