I'd always wondered why Danny's head looked rather large, in comparison to the rest of his body...

...the simple explanation is - his height! I hadn't noticed, until Blackpool, the enourmous cuban heels he wears (which probably also have substantial internal lifts in them, to provide even more compensation).

If you watch closely, Oti is always slightly crouched/slumped, when standing - she never wears large heels, and you never see her standing fully erect. When seated, she slouches & he sits bolt upright. Check the footage! Once you notice, it becomes obvious.

I'm now convinced that Oti is at least a few inches taller, barefoot, back-to-back.

But so what? Who cares? Not me, that's for sure. Good luck to the wee fella! It makes him look even more like a cute little action man figure! Go Danny!

It did get me wondering though - how many other SCD couples have there been in which the woman was taller than the man? And have any of them ended up winning?

It only makes me wonder why they chose to pair him with a tall partner with very long legs.

It's all optical delusions. She's 5'4". He's 5'8".

I just hate his shoes for ballroom. Awful.

There have been quite a few where the woman was about the same height as the man in heels (and at times appeared taller) - Jerry/Anton, Jodie/Ian, Penny/Ian, Lisa/Brendan, Holly/Artem, Natalie/Artem and Daisy/Aljaz this year. None of them ever won. I prefer the look of the dances when the woman is a few inches shorter than the man - I think Danny would look better with a shorter partner, but probably wouldn't be doing so well as Oti appears to be a great choreographer for him. I think when the taller female is the pro they can compensate and hide it better than when it is the celeb.

I think they look fine together.

Oti adopts the poise that is suitable for the dance being performed.

Cuban heel in Latin is correct footwear for the man.

Oti's Ballroom and Latin heels look normal height to me.

I don't see the problem.

Edit: Also if there has to be an imperfect match, I'd rather see the celeb being encouraged to pick up his rib cage more for a slightly taller partner than slouching to dance with a significantly shorter partner.

Abbey & Aljaz won (and they looked great together.)

Abbey was only 5 foot 7 so never looked the same height as Aljaz.

Apologies, yes he has worn Cubans for ballroom, thinking about it, and that is obviously wrong and will detract from his dancing.

It's a disadvantage I've wondered about when it comes to doing snazzy lifts but they can be overrated if overdone.

I never notice Danny.

As for danny I have never noticesd any probs with height.....until this thread mentioned it !

Abbey is 5'9" but even in 2 inch heels she'd still be a little shorter than Aljaz. Not much though.


She does appear a lot taller but that is her listed height (I'd question its accuracy though). I think she looks fine with Danny. It's a good partnership imo.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect the height mentioned is about right. I recall seeing her dance at the British Open a few years back and don't remember her appearing tall ( although I was seated at the time). Most Latin dancers are normally shorter.

that makes the fantastic Danny one inch taller than Gene Kelly, who would have been proud of Dannys wonderful dancing Im sure.

I do think he is on the shorter side compared to other guys. And a bit short for Oti in heels.
But also it's all about proportions. I never think Natalie is as tall as she is as her proportions are not as willowy as Oti's.

It's bothered me from the beginning. They may be about the same height, he may even be taller than Oti (I think he's about 5'7") but he's proportioned so oddly. Maybe he'd look good dancing with Claudia!

The mismatch between Daisy and Aljaz bothered me, too.

I always think Danny's head looks big because his torso looks quite short in comparison to his legs - and sometimes his costumes seem to emphasise this.

I don't think he and Oti look odd together, though.

Oti has very long legs and a short body. My whole family are built the same way, so I know it's possible to be 5'4" but have legs the length of someone who is 4 or 5 inches taller!
We do tend to look taller because of it though.
Naomi Campbell is another example. She is 5'9" but looks at least 6 feet tall because she has (what some would say are) disproportionately long legs.

on ITT Yesterday they showed Oti's dress for Saturday it was said that She is the smallest pro they have made dresses for

I hadn't noticed his big head -- it can't be that out-of-kilter. But then I also hadn't noticed Ore's arms being 'too long' or whatever.
