Being family makes no difference to the Transplant list. All cadaver transplants are strangers and people with a projected life span of months, weeks, days or even hours do get them from strangers and survive.

You can only specify who gets your organ if you are a living donor, as Ben wanted to be.

There is no reason Phil can't get a transplant via the usual way within the year we've been told he has.

It doesn't happen for everyone needing an organ many do die before one becomes available but many don't. Why can't Phil be one of those?

But isn't that the point? There are more people in need of transplants than there are donors, so with the best will in the world, for some people time does unfortunately run out.

Phil hasn't helped himself either by not stopping drinking as soon as he was told to. I'm not saying that was ever going to be easy but he had several chances and he was given all the information. He didn't stop, so he has delayed even getting on the list and his condition has worsened.

We don't even know if Ronnie or Roxy (or even Ben, come to that) might be a match. I have no idea what the likelihood could be but it's certainly not a given.

Unfortunately it's looking like it may happen that way and his panto break gives them the opportunity to hospitalise him for the operation through the early part of next year. I just don't think it'a realistic message to put out to other people/families who might find themselves in a similar situation.

What if either of R&R are about to die and decide to donate their liver to phil (assuming it will match) knowing the operation will kill them sooner, but al least they get to decide who it goes to ?

I don't think that would be allowed as they wouldn't have gone through the livung donor psych tests and no living doniror transplant would happen if the doniror were likely to die obnn the table. Even with cadaver transplants, Priority has to be given to the donor re keeping them alive if at all possible and that includes unnecessary surgery. So organ donation only happens when the donor is clinically dead so they can't say who they want to have what. And the point remains, all cadaver organs go to the most needy that matches as decided by the Transplant Coordinator.

When Phil was diagnosed with Cirrhosis he was told he'd last about a year from that point if he didn't stop drinking. Although he's not drinking anymore, he was still drinking April time as that's when he had his ONS with Denise. I'm sure that would've affected his odds somewhat.

I think people are just a bit over Phil's near death experiences and miracle recoveries at this point. I know another one is making me feel weary.

Aside from his addictions, he's survived multiple car crashes, savage beatings from Grant and Gavin's thugs, a less severe hiding from Jack which still resulted in him being knocked into the pit of the Arches a second time and a heart attack due to his general unhealthy lifestyle... I mean it's beyond stupid at this point.

I can't see why Phil would have any sort of priority on the transplant list.
