Regardless of what you think of the Character of Phil I don't think anyone can deny how much of a brilliant actor Steve McFadden is. His performance of Phil you really belive he is ill. Danny Dyer last week I know he was probably joking but he was saying hes the best actor in EastEnders I completely disagree. I really belive Steve McFadden is the best actor in EastEnders.

I'm not a fan of the Mitchells but I totally agree with you OP. Steve's acting has always been good, but he is slamming it right now.

Yeah, I'm in agreement. Think no one else can pull it off like Steve does. Phil seems to be going through a painful acceptance of his illness and there's a desperation in him. As contemptible an individual as Phil is, there seems to be an endearing childishness in him where he can see everything slipping slowly through his fingers.

Brilliantly acted and he's probably the only character there with the possible exception of Ronnie who can display a dark underbelly so well.

He's a decent actor but he's never made me get on board on an emotional level. Now maybe that's the way it's meant to be or maybe it's the way the character is acted. I can't think of one other character that I haven't felt for at sometime or another.

I find I can appreciate a character more for their actual role they play if I feel no emotional attachment to them. But I can understand in certain scenarios as with the Cokers, it helps to like them.

Steve Mcfadden is the greatest EE actor ever imo and Dyer needs to pipe down and let the acting do the talking.

Can Steve not as his parting shot take Dyer down an alley and give him a Phil like bloody good shoeing?

The make up department has to be given credit too. Is Phil wearing yellow contacts?

He looks like he has liver failure. His skin is a strange yellowy brown.

Steve is a great actor unfortuantly Phil is just worn out as a character now. Out of all the Mitchells most are run dry or boring.

Dire Dyer is worse than Cassandra as Geraldine by far!

When you actually read what Danny said he wasnt really dissing steve or adam he was saying he had the most experience in terms of playing different characters and auditioning

I dont think danny gets the level of storylines and depth that steve gets. Steve is exceptional at playing and delivering phil. The only way to really compare is if mick is still in the square in 20yrs and has had the level of storylines Phil has had

Best actor in the show, even if the character is in a bit of a rut.

Mick's too much of a one-dimensional character whose storylines as inextricably linked to his family. If he broke up with Linda, he'd be finished and he lacks the depth and dark personality of Phil. That partly explains his longevity and versatility. Mick is rather lightweight and limited as were Billy, Jack, Alfie and even Max.

Phil's unique but hopefully he'll be killed off now.

LOL. In a nice way you understand.

He's a great actor, but they've written the character into a corner. There's no realistic way he'd get a transplant. He falls off the wagon every 3 months.

I'm sure the Xmas/NY storylines will give him a miracle, but realistically he'd struggle to come back from this.

Didn't the Dr's say last decemher that he won't live to see this year's Christmas. But now theyre saying he's got another year left to live.

However gotta love the actor though.

He's a good actor. I don't know about versatile as I watched a drama about 15 years ago in which he played a fireman and it was just Phil by another name really.

The problem with Phil is he's burnt out as a character and holding others (Sharon & Ben) around him back. He was so vile before this transplant storyline - stooping to a new low with the Max thing - that for me it's a case of how are we even supposed to care?

90s Phil will never be bettered. I was OK with the early stories where Phil morphed into a nasty pig because I thought he'd just lost his way and would find it again but 15-16 years on it's just old for me now.

He is one of Eastenders best.

Without question he's the greatest actor in EE. I really hope he's not going to die as he's one of my favourites and the show wouldn't be the same without him.

If he survives it may change his character and he may become a better person. Steve could pull this off easily.

He's been sober for 6 months now. Aren't the Mitchell sisters going to die at Christmas? If their livers survive intact, Phil can have one.

I don't know, what would he do? Run a Rumba class, manage the allotments or lead the book club? Any change in Phil's persona would be quite unrealistic just as Honey becoming a bailiff or Billy becoming Libby's Head of Department.

Big fan. If he does leave the show, I'll definitely watch for his work elsewhere.

What has Danny Dyer got to do with this?

Gusto I quoted you by accident
