Silly things people believe about food.
Someone I know does a lot of cooking, especially stews in winter, and has a lot of left-overs but won't keep anything in the fridge which has cooked onions in it. He says they go bad very quickly and send the rest of the dish bad. Ridiculous. He throws it away then instead of keeping it for next day. I've told him onions keep a few days refrigerated just like anything else but I can't convince him.
Can you add any daft food ideas that people you know have. |

He must be fanatical about use by/sell by dates.

this thread reminded me of a silly story
few years ago when there was the health scare about eggs i was in my local shop and one of my neighbours was in front of me in the queue. she was convinced she had forgotten something she needed and the shopkeeper asked if she needed half a dozen eggs. she replied that she was never going to eat another egg as they were bad for you, just as she put out one cigarette and lit another one. |

You can't cook chicken from frozen. You can, it's fine.

It will probably taste like shit but yes there are no health risks.
Egg shell colour makes a difference in nutritional value. Brown eggs may be prettier, but they aren't better for you. |

Nonsense. I cook frozen meat and poultry all the time. Put chunk of meat in crockpot. Season. Turn on and go do something else. 6 to 8 hours later work out the rest of the meal and then eat.

It tastes fine, it tastes the same as if you'd cooked it from fresh.

It would depend on what you are cooking. If you are telling me you can get a perfectly cooked chicken breast from frozen then I don't believe you.

Food miles are a bit of a red herring unless you're also factoring in the total lifecycle emissions (and unless you're an academic, you're probably not doing that).

You beat me to it! Another one from a recent thread in general that I agree with. The best sausages have the highest meat content. My favourite sausages usually have other ingredients other than meat, such as caramelised red onions, apple, cheese, leeks, herbs and spices, curry paste in them and I think a small amount of breadcrumbs only improves the sausage. 70-80% meat is about right IMO, if using good quality meat. |

I even heard Marcus Wareing say this on Masterchef. I'm hoping it's because he couldn't be bothered to say Myoglobin.
Where can I get one? What would I do with it? |

Having suggested that I'm not sure how viable it is though |
