They're missing a trick not having scenes set in Rita's flat. Jenny and Gemma scenes would be good. Maybe it will come.

The whole character is just ridiculous and that is not taking into account Dolly-Rose Campbell being just an awful actress.

One minute the character is Callum Logan's right hand thug and suddenly out of nowhere she is a "comedy" character nominated for some local hero award. It's so forced it's unbelievable. The way the character behaves around people like Dev and Rita is just mind boggling. Do people really behave like that? Skipping around the street speaking in some sort of loud patronising tone. She is just a young version of Fiz.

All true, I really don't like her, but I like Fiz.

Agree. If she's meant to be comic, she's not. She's too annoying.

When was the last time we saw Rita's flat? I can't even remember what it looks like!

Some of her scenes, tonight's included need toning down a bit imo, horribly OTT, the scenes where she comes across as sensitive & vulnerable I love her!!

That said I was still saying that about Becky the day she left after 6 years on the show!!

Totally agree. You can see her character evolving and learning. Above all she wants to turn her life around. These are the qualities I liked about Tina Dingle in Emmerdale and Kylie Platt too. It is so refreshing when characters naturally and plausibly progreas, rather than go around in circles.

Long may Gemma reign.

Not better than The Lovely Rebecca

You say that as if it was a bad thing.

Please don't compare her to Kim Fox

I agree with every word of this. I find it ridiculous how she bleats on about how much she misses Kylie and how close they were when she was happy to join in beating up her husband, help terrorize her family and hide the fact that Callum was trying to take Max away while Kylie was staying with her. She was a laughable friend! Like with Fiz, every time I see Gemma in a scene, I just think "ugh!" I personally don't understand why TPTB decided to keep her on after the Callum stuff ended or why she's being compared to Becky and Kylie as a character who's rough around the edges, but has a heart of gold.

I like her but I do think they have to be careful that they don't go over the top with her character. So called 'comic characters' can soon become tiresome if over done.

She has all the ingredients of a classic Northern comedy character.

Omg i adore Gemma!

she's easily my fave character in the show. she's funny, sweet and loveable, and IMO is starting to b the new Kylie. witty, tough and vulnerable all rolled into one. even when Gemma was Callums sidekick i thought she had potential and I'm over the moon she was brought back!

Dolly Rose Campbell plays Gemma well. Gemma, like Kylie, seems to work well with anyone she has a scene with (i wanna see more scenes of Gemma with Rita and Jenny!) and she brings Chesney to life. but i wouldn't want her with him, i think she'd b good with Craig

IMO anyone who doesn't like Gemma doesn't have a sense of humour. shes awesome!

No way would she be good with Craig - hes a very different personality
He needs someone on the same level, educationally
Gemma, while streetwise, can't hold an intelligent conversation
Chesney needs a decent storyline now
All you see is him hanging around, grinning feebly

I think it's fair to say that the return of Gemma was universally dreaded as her first stint was with the gang and was cringeworthy. Despite my initial reservations, I'm actually glad they brought her back and that she has been toned down somewhat.

Rita, is only ever happy when she has a surrogate daughter to splash the cash on, and I think it brings the character more screen time. I know many dislike Rita on here but at the end of the day she is a corrie legend and I think Barbara Knox does a good job of making Rita a likeable and warm character so I'm happy to see more of her.

I love the 'sibling rivalry' with Gemma and Jenny and Rita's clear affection for both. Gemma is OTT and in your face and the actress overkills every scene but strangely, it works. She fits in just nicely!

That was hilarious, Jenny acting so childish to Gemma.

I love the character of Jenny. One of Blackburn's good decisions.

I cringe every time the character of Gemma comes on screen. Is the actress deliberately acting badly - and why? I am sorry that a competent actress like Rita has been written in beside her.
