Eastenders Xmas play thing

Am I the only one who thinks this storyline is ridiculous? That lady who is in charge, my god she's awful. Her voice, her acting, she looks like Cruella. The lines they've been given are really silly, like when Cathy last night stood up in front of everyone and insulted her, she was shocked when the woman told her to get out. She honestly thought she could say those things and still carry on there??! The whole thing from the start has been really cheesy to me. Also find it hard to believe youngsters like Abi would be there, most of them there are old. Does she not have better things to do then sit with old folk and listen to such drivel!

Abi isn't into going out partying or going on drugs not every young person is like that...

It's incredibly crap, but SOC's objective has demonstrably been to make Eastenders as lame and banal as possible, and it doesn't come any more dull than a nativity play storyline.

The producers seem to have young and old alike at various events around Walford and this seems pretty unrealistic as would youngsters really be bothered at going to say the Walford award ceremony or birthday parties for Dot? You never see anyone like Abi or Bex moaning about going "to a gathering of old fogies who have lost their teet."

It reminds me of something Corrie would do, it doesn't suit EE.

It's dreadful. Even worse than the Elaine native story from last year.

I'm not sure where I stand on this story.

On one hand, I agree with Kathy that Geraldine hasn't had the best ideas - a BGT style thing is not a play Christmas or not and she ought to choose either a pantomime with fairy godmother etc or "A Christmas Carol" - and she was checking out the stripper.

On the other, Geraldine is right that if Kathy isn't happy she should be in charge and do it her way.

I do think the story is getting more screen time than it warrants but given the alternatives are Phil's liver, Denise's baby, Jack, Ronnie and Roxy's domestics and The Carters carrying the idiot ball about Lee - I'd prefer to watch the play.

It doesn't suit Eastenders at all.

They drag out the play thing every so often and it's always crap. Its like the darts story they do every 5 years or the walford football story they do every 3 years. Its recycling the same daft crap all the time.

You know if your character is involved in the darts, football, play storylines than you know your a character that is struggling for a decent plot.

I hate these type of 'community feel sl' idc about a bloody christmas play, darts, bingate and christmas tree gate the sequel.. it's all so boring and pointless and they love dragging out this crap. There's filler and there's EE type filler community crap, imo very dull.

It's so unrealistic. People in amateur drama groups do not behave like Geraldine because other people would not tolerate it and they cannot be run as dictatorships. The storyline seems to have been conceived by someone with no idea at all how they work.

It's a bit sad that this is the only thing they could come up with to give Kathy something to do.

At least Denise is involved next week

Kathy's a spare part on the show and serves little purpose if any. She's still quite a weak character and has been pigeonholed into minor storylines like Ben's liver donation and they're trying to create something to keep her occupied. I think the actress is genuinely bored and unchallenged and am struggling to see why she needs to be kept on.

The panto storyline is ludicrous and that will make more viewers think Gillian should be sent on her way.

If you ask me they're taking the Christmas Play way too seriously.

"I don't think a Fairy should be one of the Ghosts blah blah blah de blah..."

Who gives a crap? It's just a silly little community play not to be taken seriously, the way they are acting about it you'd think they were preparing a Royal Variety Show for the Queen!

Very true, I'm no fan of "Cruella" either but come on you can't just publicly insult someone and expect them to still want to work with you. Just what planet is Kathy on? Oh sorry forgot, this is the same Kathy who leaves her market stall whenever she pleases and yet somehow still manages to get paid for it?

They need some kind of play or nativity or something for Denise to give birth during (probably whilst having a lead part in it) - It seems to be the standard storyline for any character who is pregnant and due at christmas!

They're using the storyline for Kathy to show she's a tough, no nonsense, uncompromising woman when in reality, she's nothing of the type. It's a ridiculous storyline. Kathy going off on one at a screeching harpy over a panto line.

A pregnant woman playing the virgin Mary and giving birth during the Nativity play has got to be the number 1 soap (Christmas) cliche!
