You are peddlig outdated cliches. Rather like Ireland, peviously almost slavishly Roman Catholic countries such as Spain, Portugal and Italian have take to what they regard as the tyranny of the RC church with gusto and relish. They now feel free and don't they just love it. 'Fiercely Catholic background'? My a*se.
Ronaldo was born in 1985 by when Salazar's regime was gone ten years. Yes, it takes a while for change to come about, and change is usually faster in the cities, then towns than in the countriside. But 2000, when Ronaldo was 15, that change had most certainly taken root. If anything, a great many attititudes in those countries are now ahead of those here in Britain where despite our own smug conviction that we are at some kind of cutting edge we still wallow in the past, a good example being our British obsession - as witnessed very clearly here in this thread and elsewhere on DS - with whether so and so is a bender or not and whether so and so an actress is a muff-diver (to use two unsavoury terms which rather neatly sum up British attitudes. As for Ronaldo losing loads of moolah in sponsorship, again that is a pretty unfounded claim, made, I suspect, by someone no longer in the first flush of youth. Sponsors are well aware that their market is diverse, whether they are trying to flog gym kit (goes down well with muscle marys), perfume (i.e. 'after-shave') clothes or whatever. If anything they might welcome a gay role model such as Ronaldo who might help them expand their reach and create a new 'gay' market. It's all about the loot you see. As to whether Cristiano baby is or is not, I personally don't give a flying f*ck. But this poster is way off-beam appealing to 40/50 year-old-steretypes. Here's another example of how enlightened the spanish are. Here's a pic of spanish motogp superstar Marc Marquez's crash helmet in Japon in 2013:http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Marc+Ma...ng/-8hXttQ-l9L He had a shirt made up too! https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/2181499793249570/ Neither he, his family, his team, the spanish media or the artist that did it, didn't think there was anything wrong with it. 2.Bib. Yes it is. So what does he have to gain in coming out? This isn't like Tom Daley, who became more well known and talked about. Ronaldo is already a sporting superstar. He's as big as they get. http://www.maxim.com/sports/cristian...r-deal-2016-11 |

Whether these thugs are in the closet or not, Ronaldo would still get a load of abuse. I would like him to come out. If he did, I believe others would too and not just footballers but other big stars of sport. But as I said above, footballers are exposed to all kinds of abuse. I don't know if you go to matches, but some of the stuff the supporters come out with is shocking at times. I find it intimidating enough just being in the stands, so god knows what it's like being on the pitch and having it aim directly at you. Ronaldo may have the support of his fellow players but it would still all be on him. I've been in a stadium and have witnessed thousands of supporters goading one particular player because of his poor performance. Unsurprisingly he only got worse. Interestly, quite a number of foreign managers who've come to the premiership have praised the supporters for being pretty restraint compared to what they're used to in Spain and Italy, for instance.
If he decides to come out, i'm sure it will be down the line, when hes out of the game. It will be far safer & tolerated by the public & football fans alike. I doubt that will happen though - when you see the efforts he goes to, to show he's a normal heterosexual. |

I get the feeling that Ronaldo is out to all who know him. He just hasn't gone public.
It's quite obvious he's gay. Rihanna called him her gay friend ffs. |

I don't think he's hiding it all that much, tbf
It looks like he's in a happy relationship and living relatively open to his friends, family and teammates. By being pictured with a woman now and then, helps to reassure all the men out there who wear his shirts and buy his products. Ronaldo's got plenty of fans living in countries where being gay isn't just unexceptable, it's illegal. It also wouldn't surprise me if Real Madrid have it written in his contract that he's got to keep quiet about it. |

It's a shame he can't be the poster boy in coming out. It would help so many people.. wasted potential once he's retired and irrelevant ! we need a top footballer to do it WHILE playing.. otherwise it's cowardly to do it when you have retired and rinsed/coined the money in for god knows how many years, on a lie..

There's no chance of him admitting anything until he retires, and even then the sponsorship/media career he will undoubtedly be offered may stop him.
At the end of the day, It's his life. We know only what we think we do. |

At the end of the day, It's his life. We know only what we think we do. Ronaldo has been called much worse things, booed loads when he was in England.. I don't think he is scared of the reaction per se - I think his "handlers/management" have told him not to because it would severely damage his marketing potential. That's my opinion from watching him, he cares too much about his image and money. It's sad though - as he has earned enough money to last 10 lifetimes.. |

Yeah, but the other side of the coin is he really cares about money so much he's willing to create a lie to keep the PR machine going.. there is a darker, sinister side to this (one of greed, lies and narcissism). There is other people involved, his fans he (might be) deceiving to coin it in, the girls he is using.. etc

Its pretty much known he's not really interested in female company but like boyband members etc they're told not to reveal which way they swing so as not to p off any possible fans and thus lose revenue for their companies and the sponsors money.
I'd imagine he'd of know the rules from an early age of playing sports, but the Man Utd picture of him looking horrified will be a classic for all time. |

It's starting. Some Barca and Atletico fans have been giving him some stick. Real's two big rivals so I guess it's expected really. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...ico-clash.html
Let's hope La Liga gives him proper support. |

Cristiano is 31 so won't be playing at international level for too much longer. He could well be paving the way for a future coming out.

Wonder if he will take Georgina to the Ballon d'Or ceremony and pose on the red carpet together? I suspect he might. Perfect PR since he's going to win.
She's very young, 21, so a 10 or 11 year age-gap.. maybe she's a bit star-struck by him? she is an unknown shop worker girl in Madrid.. does she know what she has let herself in for!? the media scrutiny etc? not only in Portugal and Spain but the press in England love printing about Ronaldo and his new "girlfriends" and love life..
