Is there anyway on pay and or that to tell if a text has got to the other persons mobile ok. I heard something about this a while ago but I think it was not widely in use on all networks and not sure if it was for pay and go users.

Anyone with o2 regardless of their phone type has to put *0# infront of their message. There's no need to put a space after it though as the receiver doesn't see the *0#.

I been trying out the 02 text delivary reports and its been sending me a message with in 20 and 40 seconds saying my text been delivered. I just wondering how accurate are the reports. Also why do 02 not tell you about the delivary reports so anyone new to 02 can use them.

I've never had a problem in all the years with Virgin, T-Mobile and now also easyMobile with delivery reports.

Friends not had problem with Vodafone nor Orange either. It's just O2 network you need to mess about with.

You get the report to say the message has been delivered when it hits the recipients phone.

If the recipients phone is off, then they won't get the message until they switch it on, so could be minutes, hours or days. Depends on what setting you have for the length of time a message should keep trying before it is classed as failed and deleted by the network.

Also if the recipients phone is out of coverage for a while you have to wait for it to come back in, or if their in box is full you have to wait for them to empty it.

You only get a OK receipt when it actually hits their phone.

If you phone some one and their phone is switched off, send them a message, and as soon as they switch their phone on, you will get a receipt stating 'delivered' - then you know they have switched their phone back on!

Must be noted O2 text receipts are a little dodgy.

If that is all you send, you might as well use www.118888.co.uk , was 10 per day, now 50 per month!

I've found o2 delivery repoerts to be very dodgy, it nearly always comes back saying delivered almost immediaetely when sometimes i know for a fact that it hasn't been delivered until hours later.

And on other occasions i have never received one back but have receicved a reply to my message a few minuted later.

The best way to find out if a mesage has got there is to just wait for a reply, if you know they normally text back and they haven't then its a safe bet that you need to send the message again, especially when o2 are still giving me free texts!!

The thing to remember is that text messaging is not an instant message service. The specification says that I can take upto 7 days to arrive. So even delivery reports can take 7 days to arrive.

Im I right in saying 98% of text messages are ment to arrive with in a few mins of them being sent.

All messages are meant to be received almost immediately.

But if the phone is switched off, or the phone has no signal for a while then the message can't get to it's destination.

If the message can't get to its destination, the network will try a few minutes later, and then later still, each time leaving longer and longer between each retry, until it comes to a point where it will fail.
