CS: People's reaction to David
Whilst Corrie is definitely improving recently, it's still done the classic thing of totally forgetting someone's past and just reacting to the present.
David flipped a car on Coronation Street a couple of weeks ago, nearly killing his own daughter and causing Anna severe burns. His wife was also murdered this year round the corner from his house. His brother-in-law was murdered by his wife and buried under his house Don't you think in real life he'd be an emotional and physical wreck after the year he's had? Shouldn't he be getting regular counselling to try and improve his state of mind? Or even sectioned? And yet from last night's episode you'd think everything was normal, surely Anna would have some kind of grudge against him, instead she just waltzes right into the Platt house. He walks to Audrey's salon and no-one even looks at him. Everyone seems to treat him as normal, but he's obviously a mentally unstable character who needs help. Or am I being unrealistic? I just don't feel like we've had enough screen time devoted to his recovery from the events of this year. On another note, I'd like to see some scenes about how Andy deals with Michael's death personally, instead of just hanging around with Gail. It could make his relationship with Steph stronger, or drive them apart. Just something to recognise what he's going through. |

David should definitely be getting counselling, he was suicidal but I guess causing an accident was Corrie's way of brushing it all under the carpet. Apart from Gareh punching him, no one seems to care that David's actions were dangerous. Instead the Corrie residents love giving a guilty verdict to people who are usually innocent just like the police in CS.

I agree with the OP. The aftermath of what has happened to David this year has been quickly forgotten about. I know soaps don't want to have endless misery but it also does need to reflect reality a bit better.
Given his mental state that led to the accident the reality is you don't recover so quickly and set about your normal day to day life like flicking a switch. Just for the sake of a little realism it would nice to see him go to the doctors and be helped through the trauma of the last 6 months. Finally the police involvement has been non existent which I find hard to believe given the severity of Anna's injuries and the nature of the crash. There would be a lot of questioning and looking into why the car had numerous bottles of petrol inside. No way this would be dropped. |

As usual on Corrie these days the big stunt was a complete anticlimax with little to show for it apart from Anna's burns!! That s/l will no doubt soon be forgotten & she'll be back serving fry ups like nothing happened & that'll be another complete waste of time!!
Stunts just don't work for me on Corrie, wish they would give over bothering with them tbh!! |

I'm glad to hear Anna is cured and able to waltz but I think the residents need the counseling and David should be locked up as a dangerous offender. How much more havoc will he be allowed to heap on the street plus run up enormous insurance and court costs before someone pulls the plug.

Anna thinks it was a accident, surprisingly she not holding a grudge against David...yet.
But guess she too preoccupied with her Phelan hate to notice. Does David's polar personality really surprise people, nor them not concentrating on what is wrong with him, they forgot he had Epilepsy after all. |

Gail went on at him to get some counselling, he went once to shut her up and it wasn't mentioned again. Even after finding out what he was planning at the trial she could have pushed him to get some help, instead she coddles him rather than letting him face any consequences.

I think, from the storyline perspective, the crash on The Street and nearly killing Lily and Anna is supposed to have acted as a "wake-up" call to David about his behaviour since Kylie's death (the obsession with revenge on Clayton etc).
In all honesty, David's had what we can describe as "problems" for years - exampled would be sending cards from Richard Hillman, trying to kill Gail, claiming Gail's boyfriend, Phil the Foot-Fiddler, hit him, the time Graham was so scared of his reaction to finding out Graham was now dating David's ex he handcuffed him to a radiator (which David pulled off the wall in his anger before chasing Graham across the cobbles!) etc. Unfortunately, unless he realises he needs help, counselling - if he went - would not be any help to him. |

I think David works best with his issues still bubbling on the surface. He wouldn't be David if he went to counselling and suddenly became a decent, functioning member of society.
Most people were up in arms when David didn't 'sort' Callum when he was terrorising them. There were so many cries of 'bring back psycho David' or people asking when previously unhinged David became this meek and pathetic version of his former self. I agree that the aftermath of the crash and David just miraculously recovering from a serious bout of depression (and an almost suicide) in one episode is ridiculous but I think the reason behind that is because the Platts have been massively overused, with Sarah losing her dosh and wet blanket Michael dying, if we'd also had a depressed a overwrought David, that house would have been ridiculously dark!!! |

Is Maria still in jail this week? And none of her friends or colleagues (in David's case) care.

Well, he was Sarah's boyfriend so I just equated him to that.
