Smart Hub
What are the optimum settings for this hub? I lose connection at least once an evening and it's frustrating.

I have set mine to wireless mode 3 for the time being. It is 'only' 54Mbps wifi but I can live with that. Also split your 5GHz and 2.4GHz SSIDs.

I was thinking about splitting them, but then how do I know which devices to connect to which ghz?
If you rename the SSIDs in a very clear way (eg VoidNet and VoidNet5) then you can have a look at which devices can see VoidNet5 and which can not. Then you can make a choice of which to use. |

The first thing to check is which devices actually support 5GHz and which do not. I have a laptop, a tablet and a phone and only the phone sees 5GHz.

I should think that most devices will see the 2.4 GHz WiFi, but not all might see the 5GHz.

Thve clear naming is taken care of as the Smart Hub appends -5 to the end of the 5GHz network SSID

So will a 5ghz device see both ssid's - i.e the 2.4ghz and 5ghz? Bit confusing for a noob if they're wanting to connect to my wifi as they'll see two options...
Will this actually make any improvements? |

Yes it makes a difference and no your devices wont get confused they will connect to the one they deem the best connection.

Will this actually make any improvements? A 5ghz device also operates in 2.4ghz (normally - I suspect there may be the odd 5ghz only device!!!) so it "sees" both signals. If the device is set to choose the strongest signal then it'll go for that. If you need to manually choose then you see what is available. Although I don't have any 5ghz devices to confirm this some 5ghz devices might have the capabilty of being told which (and only which) to use ie either 2.4 or 5ghz. Brian |

BT merge both networks to keep things simple in their HH configuration, but it's always better to separate the two, as has been suggested here. In my experience, 5G networks are faster, but don't have the wireless range. In my house my Amazon FireTV stick can 'see' the 5G network, but reports minimal quality, whilst from the same router the 2.4G network is tagged as 'fair' quality. In my experience, this split, and setting the correct channel numbers helps get the best out of the wireless networks. A good mobile 'phone wi-fi analyser app is also a big help.

You can't seem to change the wireless channel on the smart hub either, you used to be able to on previous hubs, but it looks like you have to leave it to the hub to switch between free channels.

I've left mine on smart and it's fine Edit - you can also change the 2.4GHz channel too. |

Ok, all wifi devices have now been renamed so it's easier to see what they are, and I've split the signals.
PS4 now downloads at my full speed, but all other devices still have a bar of signal loss, even in the next room to the router... |

2.4 gives a stronger signal than 5GHz but is slightly slower. I get no 5GHz in my bedroom because of thick walls, although it's only 20m from the HH.
2.4 also reaches my communal garden deck (or did: haven't sat out there recently for some reason since I got my HH5 )I have no idea why BT's website suggests splitting SSIDs isn't a good idea? |

Ok, so a 5ghz device will only see the 5ghz SSID when searching for networks, or will it see two - the 2.4 and the 5.0?
