Christmas tree lights - how many

I have just purchased a 6ft 5" Slimline Christmas Tree and wondered if 480 led chaser cluster lights would be far to many for it.. I like a lot of lights to cover but not sure if this would be to many as I've never had a slimline tree...

There's no such thing as too many lights. The concept simply doesn't exist. Decorate your tree with confidence.

Absolutely. Normally I use 2 sets of colour changing crystal LED strings, a set of 140 multifunction fairy light string, a set of 20 amber fairy light string and a set of proper purple fairy light string at least. Just putting and arranging the lights takes around a day (7ft 6" tree). It looks glorious, but its a lot of hard work.

This year though I can't be doing with that so for once I'm buying a set of warm white LEDs for the tree. I'm hoping 200 will be enough.

I would like to think there is some kind of Christmas light formula.

Flashing lights are great but watch out for having them visible when you are glued to the telly, or they will hypnotise you into buying all that tat being advertised

The general rule of thumb is 100-lights / vertical foot of tree. Or so I have been told.
I really don't get into the lights and tree thing, More of Menorah type person.

Minimalist and traditional. About 7 or 8 real candles on clip-on holders.

That way you get free* blue flashing lights for the outside of the house as well!

*insurance excess may apply

Maybe this will help?

Spoiler
Or you could estimate the surface area of a tree-sized cone (~52.3ft²) and divide that by 480 to get about 16 square inches per LED, assuming an even distribution, which puts them roughly at an average distance of about 4.9 inches from one another.

About half as many as there should be, unless I can find where I put the spare bulbs.
