We live in a world where only a few 'club' games are shown live on 'fta' tv now. Pretty sure the fans of the sport know the footballers involved still....
There's still way more live football on "free" TV than cricket though. The FA Cup, England internationals, World Cup and Euro's, the Champions League until the last couple of years.

Tim Abraham let go by Sky. More cost cutting.

I wonder what sort of coverage the Caribbean T20 might get this year after that delayed next day deal with Dave.

The Super Smash starts this weekend without anyone taking on the host feed for the 15 or so games scheduled for Sky Sport NZ for broadcast over here even if it was available for international broadcasters via some agency or other

Looking at the times of the games they aren't many that areUK friendly. The night games start at 6am which would be the best ones.
The beauty of NZ internationals are that they start at 9.30pm which means a lot of fans can watch a session.

Would like to see BT snap him up to anchor their coverage of next winter's Ashes series. He would give it more gravitas than a Radio 1 DJ would.

Has he ever worked as a presenter before? And are you judging Greg James purely on his past work than his actual presenting over the last few weeks?

I'd agree. Clearly knows his stuff and seems to work well with his pundits.

This isn't Melanie Sykes presenting Moto GP.

He's a cricket fan. It's not like they've just picked a random radio one guy. Cricket is weird in its use of ex pros as presenters so heavily. Most sports don't do that do they? It's lucky it has the talented broadcasters with real experience of the game in my view!

No other sport does it, and kudos for BT for trying something different in the cricket world.

I've really grown tired of Sky and the parade of ex england captains just getting a commentary job just because... I think it was Strauss who finally tipped it.. Just awful.
Gower is good, but he is Gower. Smooth and Calm but its not a given all ex cricketers can do it.

From the comments above, It seems as if Mr James is doing a good job with BT's cricket coverage, so I apologise for my assumptions (was having a Charlie Sale "celeb obsessed" moment).

But my comment about Tim Abraham still stands; it would be nice for him to be an anchor (even if he has no prresenting experience) as it would be in some ways a "promotion" for him.

Cricket on TV, what ?

ITV 4 is geoblocked for sport here in Ireland, don't have Channel 5 either and weirdly the only cricket I have seen is Sri Lanka Vs Australia test series on Eurosport, bless 'em.

My question, are England still utter pants, but think they are world champions ?
That level of smug, public school guff was always hilarious.

Over the years on this discussion we've mentioned a few times about Sky needing to freshen their team up.. Well listening to Test Match special I could say the same about them.

Blowers & Boycott are well past their sell by date.

Thinking ahead to next years Ashes (not on sky) I wonder if there's room for transfers, In particular Bumble, He used to be on TMS and would fit right in.

I can't help feeling that the pay for BBC Radio is not what you'd call an attractive proposition for a potential transferee.

Perhaps I should have used the word loan...

If Atherton is going to be in Australia next year anyway for the Times, even in Sky's absence, I hope the BBC try to sign him for some work on TMS.

With BT set to do their own coverage, both Bumble and Athers would to be attractive to Channel 9 I'd have thought? With Athers already out there I'd be very surprised if he isn't part of the Channel 9 team.

But knowing Sky, they will more than likely veto that; I mean being heard on the channel of their arch rival, even though he won't be physically working for said channel but would still be heard in the UK. And I think Sky would take a dim view of that.

Sky won't have that. If they are under contract there's no way it will be allowed

BT won't hear any of the Channel 9 commentary for the ashes as their producing their own most likely.

Blofeld was past his best 20 years ago. Some say its all part of the TMS experience Blowers gets so much wrong well I would like the commentators to have some sort of idea as to whats happening on the field- he CLEARLY DOES NOT.

As for Sir Geoffrey- when he is being serious I still believe he is a good broadcaster but when he tries his funny quips its painful to listen to

.
All a matter of opinions, but for me Boycott is still one of the best broadcasters in the sport. Even at 76 his enthusiasm for sport is infectious and it always seems as though it is a pleasure for him to be working on tours - not a right or a holiday - particularly for the BBC.
