Recording from TV to hard drive

Hi all,
I purchased a Panasonic TV about 6 months ago, which allows you to plug in a hard drive in to record from TV. I've never done this before and am wondering 2 things.
a) Does anyone know if this will let me pause live TV?
b) How much SD and HD can I get per TB as I don't really know which size hard drive to get.
Thx for any input, Pete

You should be able to pause live TV. The manual will tell you one way or the other but I would be surprised if it were not possible to pause live telly.

You can get hundreds of hours of telly on a 1TB drive. But read the manual carefully as the TV might have an upper limit on drive size it can handle.

There are other things you need to be aware of.

The recordings are locked to that specific TV. ie you cannot plug the drive into a PC or another TV, (even another Panasonic of the same model), and playback any recordings. They will only playback on the TV that recorded them. So if your telly goes bang before you've watched something then you are stuffed as the replacement won't playback the recordings.

Also you may find you can only record the channel you are watching. Depends on the model. Some have two tuners so you might be able to record and watch two different channels at the same time.

Thx chris - great advice. I will find the manual and check. I had not thought of the dual tuner problem. Would a PVR be a better option then? If so does anyone have any recommendations for one pls?
Thx again, Pete
