I'm 20 he's 18
So I really like this guy who works in the shop opposite me. He's expressed the feelings are mutual and we have exchanged numbers and have been texting quite a bit.
I added him as a friend on Facebook only to find he is 18 (19 in January). I am 20 (21 in December) so that's two years age difference and there will be a few weeks where I will be 21 and he still 18. Now if it was the other way round and the guy was a few years older than the girl it wouldn't matter but I'm just worried he is too young. It's not just what other people will think (his friends will probably think I'm quite old) but I know what younger guys are like and they can be really immature. Having seen his twitter etc some of the comments he makes show his age and lack of maturity. He told me my Twitter picture does me no justice and my Facebook photo is more the girl that caught his eye. I wasn't sure whether to feel complimented or offended but either way it was a bit tactless. He is currently on a gap year and will be going to uni in september. I have only had one relationship in the past and that ended after a few months because the guy announced he wanted to be single for uni. I just don't want a repeat of this. I also have a younger brother (same name as this guy.. is that weird?) but hes 19 in a week which will make the guy I like younger than my younger brother which to me just seems so not right! He is really attractive though and when he found out I am 20 he seemed a bit shocked (I do look younger) but he told me his ex was 20 too. What should I do he asked me out for coffee next week? Is he too young or am I overthinking this? |

You're overthinking. Everyone is different. He could be a douche no matter what age he is.

Well no as 2 years is f*** all, there are more important things to worry about, like "is he a total c***?" A 50 year old can be a c***, a 20 year old can be a c*** and so can an 18 year old.

2 years is nothing. Two of my brother's have a 18-24 month age difference with their partners and they've been married for years. When I was 22-25 I had 3 partners 8-10 years older than me (not at the same time, I'll add), it's only an issue if you make it an issue. Quote:

The relationship probably won't last long anyway so I would just avoid him.

They say age is only a number but I had problems explaining that to the police about my 12 year old girlfriend
(and am joking before anyone decides to call me a nonce etc)Just turn up and have a coffee and see how it goes, normally men mature a bit later than women which is why theres normally 2-3 year gap in ages. Plus if things get jiggy then he may have more repeat ability shall we say

The only way you are going to get experience of age differences is by trying them out.
Except that this is not going to give you much experience of age differences. |

Right. Even though the guy is younger than the girl? As a girl I would probably go up to 28 years for the guy but in terms of how young I would go... less than a year that's my issue. But if most people think it's ok ..

FFS he's only asked you out for a coffee. He's not proposing. Have a coffee with him and see how it goes.

The wife of a friend of mine is two years older than her husband.
They've been married for nearly 50 years! |

go for it, though if I could add a romantic thought, don't expect much sexual pleasure, it will probably be all over before he gets it in

Only because he is younger than me and I don't know if it will feel like I'm dating a younger brother or something. And he might feel like as I'm older I don't need protecting as much if that makes sense.

How about just having the coffee first, then deciding if you want to see him again. |
