Dominating the news? I'd hardly say it has! In fact i live near one club where he worked and have friends who are supporters. Not a peep from any of them and i cannot even remember it being reported in any local media either.

The man wasn't a priest or MP so it's not juicy enough.

These revelations are shocking in their way, but unsurprising. It's difficult to imagine that any youth sport, not just football, wouldn't have been targeted by paedophiles. Why? Because it's where the young people are. It has probably happened in rugby, cricket, athletics, gymnastics.... you name it.

Obviously one would hope that the perpetrators are, where guilty, found, prosecuted and punished.

What nobody wants to see is the sort of witch hunt that the post-Saville revelations caused where the police went over the top at the slightest whisper, on anybody with any claim to celebrity from the 1970's like a herd of stampeding rhino

By all means pursue where there are reasonable grounds for genuine concern, and give allegations due credence. Investigate with vigour where the evidence is sufficient and credible (not automatically believed "credible and true" at the whim of coppers who exceed their authority and position).

The response to these allegations should be considered in the cold light of day and proportionate to their substance.

Definitely not fed up. As far as I'm concerned it should be highlighted as much as possible, not brushed under the carpet like it usually is. It's evil and sick and it makes my skin crawl to think what these predators do, and all decent people should do everything they can to expose them.

Why are you fed up by it? Do you realise what these poor people and thousands of others have to live with every minute of every single day? That they've had their whole life destroyed?

I wonder if you'd feel the same if it was one of your kids being abused, or if you were abused yourself.

Why now?
I could understand it if abused people came forward after Savile revelations, but now it's going to be enquiries etc for ever more, then it will be abused athletes, tennis players, swimmers .....

What, exactly, is your problem with all this?

Agree. The guy was a predator and paedophile sexually abusing young boys. The problem was, these kids were on the cusp of realising their dream and Bennell could make that happen.

This 13 year old stood up to him though, hit him in the face and told him to F off. The youth was still shaken up by it enough for Gordon Banks to ask the following day if he was alright.

Yea! And? Have you read any of the interviews of the victims? Do you really think it's that easy to just come out and talk about it?

And you still didn't answer my question about feeling differently if it was someone close to you who'd been abused.

I can't understand why, all of a sudden this has burst forth on our screens, and now it will be done to death in every news report to the exclusion of all else.
On an interview for Sky, someone has just said, it's been known about for years, so why all the publicity now?
Why weren't the accused prosecuted before?

Of course l'd be devastated, but I wouldn't be going on Sky news about it
I 'd definitely play my part in getting the perpetrator brought to justice etc,
I am just querying why now? I am surprised it didn't come flooding in post Savile.
Just like Compassion fatigue, for overseas aid etc, I think viewers get victim fatigue, because The News programmes go over the same ground every time the news comes on.

It's a serious story. I remember it was a problem with Celtic Boys Club years ago. It wasn't covered by the media as much as this. I think it's because we are now in a post-Savile world and everyone is terrified of being accused of covering it up.

OP, if you set aside your boredom and actually watch the news on this you might find answers to some of the questions you are asking.

Like I said, it's not something that's very easy to talk about, because all through the abuse the abusers scare them to such an extent they're terrified to say a word about it. One poor soul said he'd been told if he said anything about what was going on the abuser would kill his whole family.

I think you should maybe read some of the interviews with the victims so you understand what they're going through.

And I still don't get what your problem is with it being all over the media.

This is very good news. Footballers tend not to disclose anything, for taunts, for image amongst their peers, and to speak out on this is quite uncharacteristic, but courageous.

Well in part i think i can see where you're coming from as i mentioned in another post, i have friends who support one of the clubs yet they knew nothing about it back then. What i do find odd is despite Bennell being convicted and imprisoned three times over a 20 year period, the FA allowed him to carry on.

I don't find it odd at all. I'd say more but it'll just get deleted. Further up the food chain and all that.
