These revelations are shocking in their way, but unsurprising. It's difficult to imagine that any youth sport, not just football, wouldn't have been targeted by paedophiles. Why? Because it's where the young people are. It has probably happened in rugby, cricket, athletics, gymnastics.... you name it.
Obviously one would hope that the perpetrators are, where guilty, found, prosecuted and punished.
What nobody wants to see is the sort of witch hunt that the post-Saville revelations caused where the police went over the top at the slightest whisper, on anybody with any claim to celebrity from the 1970's like a herd of stampeding rhino
By all means pursue where there are reasonable grounds for genuine concern, and give allegations due credence. Investigate with vigour where the evidence is sufficient and credible (not automatically believed "credible and true" at the whim of coppers who exceed their authority and position).
The response to these allegations should be considered in the cold light of day and proportionate to their substance.
