Anyone else? This is a huge news story. Not only with the levels of abuse that are growing now that more men are coming forward but also the indications this may have been covered up at various stages. This is every bit a news story worth covering. |

Just seen the news with clips from Victoria Derbyshire's show, and I think the men who have come forward and spoken out are really bloody brave.

I don't find it odd at all. I'd say more but it'll just get deleted. Further up the food chain and all that.

Also, why do people call it "historical," like it's not going on any more?
And for people who can't understand why victims don't just come forward and how much the abuse is completely covered up, watch the film Spotlight, about child abuse in that pillar of society called the Catholic Church. |

That has crossed my mind. Whether that would surface is another matter but it's highly doubtful. The professional footballers many of whom are still alive must also be asking themselves why they hadn't picked up on it or questioned things. They must be thinking they were either pretty naive even though blameless.
Can you imagine it? "ER, you got touched by a nonce, you poofter!" You only have to see how difficult it is for a player to come out as gay to realise how hard it would be for an abuse victim to speak out. Added to the fact that from the day the abuse starts they're told no one would believe them, and it's easy to see why they stay quiet, poor souls. |

One victim said he thought it would destroy his dream of becoming a top footballer if he said anything, so thought he had to put up with it!

I never said I didn't have any sympathy, I said I was getting fed up with it dominating the news
It was no secret that It had been going on for years, so why all the publicity now? I'm not the only one to comment on this The police are doing their investigations Is it necessary to keep going over it? |

The cumulative effect of months or years of being groomed resulted in the lad's reasoning being warped. Being assualted, doing what that man wanted, was something he had to do. To please him. Ugh. ![]() ![]() Power over everything those kids live for is the one thing he had in spades. It wouldn't surprise me if there are hundreds upon hundreds of paedophiles involved in football at various levels - I'd imagine it would be easier to get away with it in the lower ranks though. |

I think it's a real break through that historically footballers /sportsmen have very seldom spoken about abuse are now speaking out and will encourage others to do so. That has to be a good thing.
However it was being. Discussed on Radio 2 today in a way that I found quite disturbing. As if this was a whole new subject, a whole new phenomena etc. I found it rather extra ordinary that abusing a young boy by a football coach took abuse to some new level , andfar more heinous than other forms of abuse! Abuse of a child, male or female by an adult is heinous. There should be no special cases made. Teachers abuse, vicars abuse, priests abuse, family members abuse , all should be condemned equally . |

Of all the things to choose to troll over.... you are pretty sick.
I am not saying it shouldn't be on the news and discussed, but it shouldn't be chewed over ad infinitum, repeated and repeated People weary of it, and it loses its impact |

Even though people are coming forward everyday & feel empowered enough to admit this happened to them, it shouldn't be on the news because you're fed up with it? I'd rather hear about this than see muppet-faced Farage on my tv every damn day. Also, don't blame the story, blame the 24 hour rolling news stations.
I never said it shouldn't be on the news! |

Just seeing these men being interviewed by Victoria Derbyshire was enough to tell me there is no bandwagon-jumping happening here (not that Tellystar has accused them of such). These men have taken great courage to speak out and I'm glad they have. I think it's much more difficult for boys and men to talk about this for some of the reasons other posters have given already, so well done guys. Hope you can go on to find some peace of mind. Shame it had to wait so long.

Channel 4 news this evening reported former players as saying 'the scandal surrounding this is bigger than Savile'. A reporter who approached an FA official back in 1997 simply ignored the reporter and scurried off into the building.
Four police forces are now investigating. https://www.channel4.com/news/police...se-allegations A former professional footballer here speaks about how he has only just told his family and parents. https://www.channel4.com/news/paul-s...se-allegations |

Of all the things to troll a forum with, you choose the sexual abuse of these brave men when they were boys. Well done, you've sunk just about as low as it's possible to go.

but it's barely started. What is unfolding of course relates to the sporting world, but looks likely to be of the same horrific magnitude as the Savile case. The difference this time is that one man's courage in coming forward last week, has had such a profound and immediate impact, that just today something unprecedented happened and three other footballers began talking tentatively, but openly, for the first time ever, on live Tv about what happened to them in the hope it would help others to come forward.
These footballers have come out in the open and just seeing them makes their experiences all the more credible. |

I am not saying it shouldn't be on the news, I said it shouldn't be continually dominating the news, when it was already known about for years |
