I have to say that whilst she is clearly a few sandwiches short of a full basket I do find Emma Barton to be utterly fantastic.

I absolutely loved her scenes last night, especially when she threw arms around Moira and embraced her (the look of fear on the boys' face as they thought she was going to lamp her one )

I know some viewers want to see her punished for her crimes but I have to say, I'd quite like to see her turn a corner and redeem herself, like Carl King did. There's no reason she has to be found out just yet. I think the actress is wonderful and I find the character really engaging!!

Am I the only one?!

You're not the only one, I love Emma for the same reasons as you do. And yes, I thought she was going to give Moira a thump last night! She's totally bonkers but has a sweet face and that's quite a combination. TPTB certainly picked a brilliant actress in Gillian for the role.

When I initially realised that Emma was a bit of a nutjob, I felt so torn because Gillian really does have such a kind face and quiet demeanor, I genuinely felt that it was too big a departure for her to play. I'm totally sold now though, its wonderful how the actress has made the character her own and despite her being totally psychotic I actually really do sympathise with Emma, I want her to redeem herself and be long standing character, she could cause mayhem without anyone even knowing it was her! Sneaky, sneaky Emma!!

Whole heartedly agree. Brilliant character and a brilliant actress in Gillian Kearney. She was Emmerdales MVP during the crash week.

I guess she'll have to do the time for her Jamesicide at some point.

But yes, she's brilliant, mean and unstable and vulnerable and fanatical. Love her. My favourite bit of the show right now.

Her sons are also hot.

It's a difficult one because she's fabulous as a character (and the actress is great) but she tortured James before killing him and she's making her beloved sons believe he deliberately took his own life and left them .

So I hope she pays the price eventually, but let's gave some fabulous Barton drama before then

She is fantastic! Such a credit to Emmerdale, I would hope they'd keep her as long as they can get the actress to stay! She manages to be a bit crazy, a bit villainous, but yet you still feel for her because most of her 'evil' comes from genuine desires and emotions we can all relate to.

she does play it very well and is very believable in a split personality type of way... the caring nurse, and the fruitcake manipulator... she is also quite hot with a great figure for a what would you say, middle aged woman

Agreed. She's a splendid actress and is the best thing about Emmerdale right now.

Ah I'm so glad others agree!! I tried talking to my mother about this who finds her deplorable and thinks she's needs punishing immediately for her actions, but where's the fun in that?!

Gillian is amazing and is playing an absolute blinder, balancing the doting mother with just enough secret crazy! Love her!!

She's been a favourite of mine for a while now. She is so watchable and such an intriguing character. I'm not sure what will happen with her but I don't particularly see why she has to pay for her crime(s). Many don't on Emmerdale and she deserves to get away with it more than most.

I agree Trevor. I've mentioned before how Carl King killed his old man and got away with it so I don't see why the same can't apply to the lovely Emma.

Exactly. Robert killed his sister in law, Ross shot Robert and Andy arranged that shooting and on and on. If all of these can walk away from their crimes then Emma can and should.

I don't find the character complex - I just find her extremely plot driven.

Gillian Kearney is doing a great job, but the narrative for the character has no depth, no insight. They just wheel out "mental Emma" when they need sensational stuff to put on screen, then whitewash over it with bland contrived plot direction.

I couldn't disagree more. To me, I find any scene she's is far from boring because you just don't know what she'll do next.

I hope Emma smashes the Dingles to bits. She's a great villain and clearly isn't scared one bit by Cain and his bullying ways. Good on her I say! GO EMMA

I think that would be a bit boring tbh, although sadly there are a lot of people who are bad but can put a respectable face on it and never get caught

In retrospect I do agree that to see Emma cause lots of trouble yet continually fail to be found out, would kind of make the villagers out to be idiots so perhaps that isn't the best plan for her. I do think she can be redeemed though and I'd like to see it in some way.

This is why I didn't want James to be killed off. I never want Emma to leave/get locked up (however they eventually deal with it), her craziness is brilliant and the actress superb.

I've loved her as an actress when as a 16 year old as Damon's girlfriend in Brookside she held him in her arms as he died of a knife wound on the steps in York. She's so underrated.

She is doing a fantastic job and the character is so rich and complex! She has so many genuine sides to her. Her nice, Mum/ caring person side isn't n act- it's almost how Emma should have been, if she was not mentally ill and if that had not driven her to such extremes.

Now we see the two sides to Emma and it's great! Loved her confrontation with Cain also!

Boring? Honestly, that surprises me. I know we all react to things in different ways, and if you're bored, you're bored, nothing wrong with that. I just think Emma and the Bartons/Moira/Cain (and Ashley too) is the one bit of the show that really grips me at the moment.

Quite interested in Pierce/Rhona, but not Paddy. Can't stand Zak/Joanie. The Kerry stuff is a mess. Like the Whites but think the stuff vs the Sugdens is silly. Like Carly/April but not with Marlon. The Frank stuff is a bit disappointing and I can't stand Tracey and David.

But when Emma walks on to the screen, they've got me right there. Love it. Best stuff since Charity/Declan as far as I'm concerned. So you'll have to put up with being bored for a bit longer.
