I'm having problems using an external sound device (hi-fi) and the Netflix app on my Panasonic TV. For some reason regardless of the sound settings in the menu, the audio will only come out the TV? Amazon is also the same.

Anyone else experienced this issue?

It would help if you detailed exactly what make and model of TV you have, what make and model of sound system you have and precisely how you have them connected together.

Without knowing this information we can't say for certain what the problem is.

If you are using the headphone socket on the TV or a dedicated audio output on phonos on the back of the telly (rare these days) then they should output whatever you hear on the TV speakers. Though they might not change level with the volume controls on the TV remote.

If you have a SCART adapter and lead to the audio system then that possibly only outputs from the built in tuner of the TV and no other source. Including the built in apps on the TV.

But as I say difficult to be any more exact without knowing what you have and how you have it hooked up.

The model of TV is TX-50CX680 along with a generic Panasonic stereo system. I'm using the optical port of the TV which is fed into box to covert the signal into a red and white AUX input on the hi-hi.

As I said, everything else works apart from the built in apps of Netflix and Amazon.

Try turning on Viera Link, don't ask me how but it seems to enable audio from the apps so it can be passed to an external sound system. Worked for me a few times on Panasonic TV's, worth a try.

I just checked and that's already enabled. I've also tried all source options for the audio.

It could be because these apps are outputting DD/DD+ and your hi-fi doesn't support it. Have you tried changing the sound setting from AUTO to PCM in the SOUND>SPDIF menu? You may have to do this while Netflix/Amazon is outputting audio.

Yeah, the first thing I tried was changing the sound setting to PCM. It's frustrating as the built in app has 4K compatabilty with Netflix, and it would be nice to watch things with sound.

Try
MENU button on remote, SOUND, SPEAKER SELECTION, change TV to HOME CINEMA.
