Starboy - The Weeknd
This came out today so what does everyone think? I definitely prefer it over all to Beauty Behind The Madness but there isn't a song on this album that I love as much as Often and In The Night. Starboy is still probably my favourite track at the moment.

great album!
Die for you is one of my fave tracks. It doesn't quite have the same stand out hits as BBTM but its overall a better album and I love it. I feel it coming is another great track. |

Funny I should find this because I'm currently listening to the track "Starboy" by The Weekend/Daft Punk.
If The Weekend's album is like this then it'a a good album, I like Starboy! |

It is so much better than Bruno Mar's latest effort at least. Both have a retro sound thing going on but Weeknd is far more successful in his attempt.
I Feel It Coming is superb and deserves to be a huge hit. |

Excellent tune. Not overly Daft Punk but a good groove. The album is excellent too.

Love his live performance of I Feel It Coming and Starboy on the The Tonight show in the US:
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...fallon-w452386 I think its fair to say The Weeknd is the star(boy) of the moment. I don't often say this about a male singer, but my word his voice is just beautiful. Love how he can switch between his own vocal style and anything from soul, hip hop and a bit of a very good Michael Jackson impression. Its a very cool album and I would take him any day over the Drakes of this world. I don't like everything on the album, some of the tracks where he goes into hip hop cliché of dropping "N" bombs every 2 seconds get a bit repetitive. But there are lots of songs on the album -18 in total and the majority are quality. The Daft Punk and Lana Del Rey collaborations are superb. Shame he didn't give her a full song rather than just 1min 52 on the "interlude" track Stargirl as the vocals between them are just sublime and it adds another dimension to the album. |

I've only previewed the songs on iTunes but already I'm hearing some major Michael Jackson influences on some of the songs.
As much as I like Starboy (the single), I'm loving the new single I Feel It Coming featuring Daft Punk. It's also a nice surprise to see Lana Del Rey appearing on the album after featuring on Prisoner on BBTM. Also the M A N I A video on YouTube is awesome!!!

He's getting some strong critical praise for the album. For instance, The Independent are hailing I Feel It Coming as the pop song of the year:

What the hell?!
Can someone confirm for me that there is a version of Starboy that has "I'm in love with the starboy" in the chorus or have I been completely mishearing it all this time?!

I was looking forward to this album a lot but im a little disappointed. The singles are great pop songs, catchy and very listenable, but im disappointed with the rest of the album. No doubt theres some good songs here but but after listening through it feels a bit bloated and too long. Feel like he could have cut it down to 10-12 songs and it would have felt a lot more polished.
False Alarm, Rockin and Ordinary life should have been cut and never seen the light of day, hate these songs. Almost a bit like Kanye West and his album The Life of Pablo, a good editor would have helped. |

Whilst the should he/shouldn't he have put so many songs on the album debate rages commercially speaking you can see why he's followed Drake's lead and done this. Due to how the charts are now collated using steaming as well as physical/download sales ever single track from the album has gone into the US Billboard chart:
http://www.spin.com/2016/12/starboy-the-weeknd-hot-100/ Must be kind of fun for an artist seeing the entire chart is them . And as each one of those tracks are steamed it means more kerching £$£$£$ at the cash register for the album as a whole. Looking at this in a wider context, some people had predicted the death of the album as a format but I am wondering if (for better or worse) this is the way forward. Are we going to see a return to the days of double or even treble albums? |
