In stock at Asda today for just £30 including wooden stand - http://your.asda.com/news-and-blogs/...ve-centrepiece

This was an impulse purchase but tried some this evening with Manchego cheese, tomatoes & sourdough bread - absolutely stunning.

The link is from 2014 when they were £10 dearer at £40, what a bargain!

I noticed something similar in Aldi yesterday, only it came in a box with a wooden stand included. I don't eat meat so didn't note the price, but this is the ad on their website, even though it's already on sale.

They had one on display in Morrisons today, I nearly threw up, very upsetting, a pigs leg with the trotters intact, on a wooden plinth, it looked sad and disgusting all in one go.

We had a whole one the year before last and the a mini one last year. They are lovely but by the time we got through it all I got quite sick of it. Great if you are having a big party though.

I'll just buy some already cut this year.

Don't worry dear, I'm sure they killed the pig before cutting its leg off and curing with salt.

We got ours from Morrisons this year, £28 with the stand. It's nice meat for the price paid.

Oh dear, it must be quite upsetting to be confronted in the butchers section of a supermarket with a symbol of where meat comes from.

Welcome to the real world, meat does not come from prepackaged sources. That nice steak you enjoy, it came off a cow. Get real, grow up or turn vegan, all the more meat for me then.

Dukeshill catalogue.

7kg Serrano Ham Reserva with free stand and knife £125.00, a free stand and knife is the least you should get at that price.

Pata Negra Jamon Iberico de Bellotta 7 to 8 kg, £395.00. I mean come on. That's just silly.

I bought one from Lidl a couple of years ago and wasn't impressed with the quality.

Sounds nice, but I'm not sure what I'd do with 7kg of ham.

I suppose I asked for that. How long does this stuff last? Thinking about it, I assume a long time as it's cured.

I think so, you'd need to protect it against mould, but the whole point is that meat was cured in the days before refrigeration in order to preserve it through the winter.

As I am curing quite a bit of meat at the moment, you'd be surprised how long you have to 'air dry' ham before it's even ready to eat.

They recommend 4 to 6 months after curing for a Yorkshire ham (dry cure) before it's even ready to eat. Prosciutto is 12 months.

Bacon is air dried for a minimum of 10 days but can be up to 3 months and still be safe to eat, though 28 days is pushing it just about its limit for my choice of flavour.

Pata Negra costs a fortune, that's just the way it is. If you want the best you have to pay for it.

They do these a few times a year in Aldi in Lidl

I think I've seen them in Aldi in the last few weeks, but Lidl definitely have stacks of them at the moment, along with mini-versions if you can't eat a whole one:

What about this puppy?
No, I'm pretty sure it's pork.

Thing that gets me is they've still got the cheek to charge p&p. If I'm coughing up that sort of money for a ham leg, however artisan prepared and cured and loving crafted with a signed affidavits from the pig that it had a wonderfully fulfilled life and really really liked acorns, and happily went to the abattoir knowing it was going to taste delicious. I'd expect them to send it parcel post in the cost of the thing.

I'd probably argue that if you can afford to spend two grand on some ham then you're not going to be too bothered about paying a fiver to have it delivered.

OTOH they are throwing in a free knife, so you can't accuse them of penny-pinching.
