Why don't they get sick from the eating trials?
Zarla

I know Freddie Starr did once get sick, but none of the others have, as far as I know, anyway?

People get ill easily on holiday - just drinking the local water can make some people sick for days, so, in theory, swigging a pint of blended cockroaches should bring on 24 hours of diarrhoea and vomiting, surely?

Maybe they make them take a course of super strength antibiotics, like Doxycycline, before they enter the camp and the whole time they're in there. Otherwise, surely there would be a lot more illness?

That's what I wondered too, wouldn't they get worms? That drink that Adam had contained pork - I thought eating raw pork was really bad for you?!

They did mention this a few years ago when people complained about the amount of critters that get killed for the programme. All the bugs and mammals are bred in a sterile environment, and those remaining after the show are released after it finishes, or course they can't guarantee that someone may have a reaction to them like Freddy but mostly they are safe. This is the reason that eating wild animals is frowned on because they could cause problems health wise .

I don't know about the rest of the meat, but on extra camp they said that the pork was boiled for three hours at a high temperature before being blended with water.

Ive been saying this for a few years now, not everyones stomachs can take all that rubbish if indeed it is what they say, especially the drinks that would have them running to the loo constantly Id imagine, or being sick. which tells me its milky drinks with some rotten stuff added to give it a terrible taste.

When all is said and done, penise, anuses, brains and the like are just meat.
Many cultures eat insects like locusts and grubs as part of their natural diet.

Ah right, that would take care of the germ angle then I guess.

True and back in the day people did used to eat offal - not just liver and kidneys. My grandad used to eat sheep's brain, heart and tripe 🤑🤑😷. There was also something called chitterlings (I think that's what they were called), I feel very nauseous now.

Let's not forget tongue sandwiches 😱

Was it banned because of that tho? If so, what about the sheeps' brains and pigs' heart?!

I can't really remember why they banned offal but was annoyed I couldn't buy udder anymore lol

I used to work in a tongue factory.

I think you can still get hearts but not sure as I never liked them so not really looked.

Who said it was raw? Either way the risk from eating raw pork is tiny at best.

People still do eat offal. If you eat sausages or haggis or faggots then you are eating offal. I had duck hearts at a restaurant in London not long ago.

Is there some confusion regarding offal then? Only I do remember it being commonplace, then it seemed not to be. Personally, I only eat chicken and fish, and I don't think I'll be eating either of those much longer. Aren't duck hearts really, really tiny?

The bugs being sterile and everything being cooked to destroy germs must account for the campmates remaining well, although I wouldn't be surprised if there were stomach upsets that we're just not hearing about, plus remedies doled out by Medic Bob.

I would imagine most of the celebs would vomit after some of the weird concoctions they have to eat or drink, but presumably those concoctions would be tested to make sure there is nothing in them to cause real illness. After all, the person responsible to making them said she has to try them all. (I hope she is paid well!!!)

As for offal, liver (sheep, pig, veal and venison) is sold in most butchers shops; hearts, kidneys and tripe slightly less so, but still freely available.

They do get sick. We don't see it but Dr. Bob has always been a font of knowledge on the ailments in general.. Stomach/gut problems from the stuff they ingest, plus dehydration, yeast infections, leeches, tics and insect bites mostly.
Do the public want to watch anyone vomitting or their trips to the dunny with the squits and dehydration? I'm not sure the contestants would like that either.

Yes but no-one pointed out that the risk from raw pork is fairly minimal anyway, I eat medium rare pork all the time.

Duck hearts are tiny yes but I had several and it was a starter.

Offal is still available and if you eat anything with mince in you are eating offal.

lol I did quality control. The tongues were already cooked and I had to measure them and cut them open to make sure they were cooked properly.

Then we had to test the tins etc if the packed tins didn't measure or open right we had to stop the machines, much to the packers disgust as they got bonuses for every tin packed etc

While to our "enlightened" human standards all that stuff is "disgusting", most of it is effectively just meat and all of it is still edible food.

Most omnivorous animals in the wild wouldn't turn their nose up at the food eaten in trials. Our bodies are designed to process that stuff and things like the blended cock roaches probably have a decent calorie and protein content depending on how thick it is.
