Confirmed this will be the EU's stance after it got passed through EU parliament.

Nice PR counter move by them, will get them popularity and support.

This is the scenario where EVERYONE can be happy "have cake and eat it" if you will..”

I thought the EU's stance was no negotiations before A50 is triggered. It seems quite ridiculous that the EU is putting this forward but has refused to consider a proposal to grant rights to remain for both EU and UK citizens post Brexit. The UK's response should be that's up to you there is nothing to negotiate about.

If they're offering this 'for free' and without strings attached, then it doesn't form any part of negotiations. They're saying British people can remain EU citizens, full stop, not 'providing the UK agrees to such and such' (which would be a form of negotiation).

There will be some Leavers who won't be happy about this as they are looking forward to taking rights away from other people that they don't want for themselves.

Also if there is a huge cost it will become about who is most rich and that isn't fair.. as technically you could get Leave voters paying in even to get all the EU perks even though they voted to Leave !

They should offer it for free or a small charge

I wonder if its a move by the EU to show that they are being open and welcoming, in contrast to the constant talk of immigration controls by some Brexiteers.

That would suit the Leavers who didn't want poor unskilled people having freedom of movement.

The only option that could ever please the SNP would be Scottish independence.

There will be a charge, probably for admin, printing etc. Of course, leavers would be more than welcome to take this perk, after all, the whole point of remain was it's inclusivity. However I hope if they do they don't mind being called hypocrites!

Q - would Farage DARE???

One suggestion I've heard is that they could offer a ten year passport for a normal passport fee : that would be a reasonable enough solution.

I don't see the point unless you either live there already or are planning to live there.

Anyone who thinks this perk will be offered at minimal charge is being naïve, the EU will be looking to make as much money as possible on this little scam. As a Leaver the thought of taking up this offer wouldn't even enter my head, Verhofstadt can stick it in the proverbial.

Just thought .... EU universities teach degrees with much, much lower fees than UK one to EU nationals. Many courses in English too.

No immigration queue to join at European airports and no EU visa waiver would be enough incentive for many. Not that it matters to me as I got two passports anyway.

I think people need to wait for the pricing to be announced, it could be a very expensive way of saving a few minutes in an airport queue.

Worth it for me. I cruise a lot and currently you get your passport checked at Southampton and it is not checked again in any EU country. It's a flipping nightmare when you have a complete ship having to go through passport checks like in Russia. Same with US where it took 4 hours to get through all passengers even in New York.

Dependent on cost, I would be very interested in this. Particularly if it means that those of us who choose to continue to be EU citizens, would have the EU worker protections left in place if the UK government does away with them. Would we have enhanced rights as it were?

We investigated the irish passport thing but our links are a generation too far for both of us (g grandparents rather than grand parents)

I don't think that's possible. The EU can't dictate law to a third country for people in that country. You'd of course be protected if working in any EU country.

I am waiting for more details. Very interesting idea if it isn't a crazy price.

I can't see how that would work. You would presumably be entitled to full EU rights when living in a EU country but since the UK would't be one then it wouldn't apply. Just as you don't get to keep your EU employment rights if you moved to the USA.

Would £350 million a week fit the bill?

Not sure how that would disbar the system? A British person would have the rights of a British citizen in the UK under their British passport but would switch to being an EU citizen any time they travel to an EU state using their EU passport. Brexiteers refusing to take out EU citizenship would be treated as foreigners in the EU.

Sounds good for me. The ideal solution for the Remoaners!?

How many Remoaners will actually pay though? me thinks not as many as people think.. 15 to 20 million unhappy with Brexit? not a chance !!

I'd love for this to happen, so the Remoaners can be exposed as all smoke and mirrors.”

Remoaners do not exist, a lady on QT said that the Daily Mail made it up. It's not in

It's not only actors who will take up the offer. If you talking about alright Jacks luvvies then they are so rich they are too drunk to care. It's the working class who will have the opportunity with their magical passport and a couple of quid in their pocket to take any job like that dude on Benefits Britain a month ago

Any excuse for another moan about "Remoaners"!
