Maria, Eva, Sarah - Sarah hasnt had any friends since she returned, only Todd, Billy and family. will be good for her to have some girl friends.

Gary, Aidan, Adam - i think they are all around the same age, maybe they become friends after Sarah, Eva and Maria organize a triple date night.

David - its bin awhile since David had a good friend. not sure who he could be friends with., maybe Daniel, Luke, or Zeedan?

Steph, Sinead, Alya - these 3 girls are around the same age, will be good for them all to get more screen time, this friends group could work

Daniel with Gemma or Sinead? - Gemma works well with anyone she shares a seen with, Daniel needs some friends

Jenny and Michele? - both could use a new friend

anyone like these ideas? please share your suggestions

Maria, Eva and .Kate have a friendship going, gym classes and that or they did

Alya and Sinead are friends. I wonder if Sinead will leave the cobbles when Ches dumps her for Gemma.

Think Aidan and Adam are going to butt heads a bit.

I would like to see both Sarah and David makes friends tho

I like the Sarah/Todd friendship they have a naturalness about them that shines through because of their shared history, if anything I'd like to see more of it.

Corrie used to be great at friendships between characters, it was one of the show's biggest strengths. Characters had enduring friendships that latest for years and were revisited time and again. These days, friendships are dreamed up based on the needs of a storyline (Leanne and Michelle, anyone?) and then vanish again once the story is over.

There was a particularly strong period in the late 80s and early 90s where you had pairings such as Gail/Sally, Liz/Deirdre, Audrey/Alma, Kevin/Curly/Martin as well as a loose group of younger characters who weren't friends per se, but interacted with each other a lot (Raquel, Des Barnes, Angie Freeman).

I'd love to see some enduring friendships be established and, where they already exist, be reinvigorated. I'd like the Sally and Gail friendship to be revisited in a more meaningful way. Why not give them their own storyline that explores them both as friends? It doesn't have to be anything serious.

I think David not having friends is a believable part of his character. His only real friend has been Graeme and he was a total odd-ball.

He had some lesser friendships with Craig Harris and Darryl Morton, but they were nothing to write home about.

Sarah and Maria definitely they were friends before when they both worked in the Salon together and Maria was a bridesmaid at both Sarah and Jason's weddings.

It seems to have been forgotten about since Sarah's returned from Milan.

Bethany could have a new friend as well as her only friend is Craig but who?

As I've discussed with other FMs in the past, I'd love to see Corrie build its younger cast into something close to what it had back in the early 2000s. Back then there were different 'tiers' of younger characters going from the junior school age (Chesney, Sophie), through the younger teens (David, Rosie, Craig Harris), to older teens (Sarah, Todd, Candice, Ade Critchley) and finally characters in their late teens/early 20s (Maria, Tyrone, Fiz, Jason).

Currently there are younger characters but they're all very much standalone figures. Amy and Simon do very little outside of the Barlow/Battersby family. Faye has her latest boyfriend Seb and Craig is a bit of a lost soul.

Introduce some new younger characters as friends. Candice was brought in as nothing more than a friend for Sarah but grew into a good character in her own right. Nikki Sanderson was absolutely wasted on Corrie and never given the break she deserved.

I totally agree it's a shame Lauren was introduced as a bully she could've been introduced as a friend of Bethany same as Candice was for Sarah.

Andy and Luke are already good friends but add Gary and David too that. I think David works better in a group, he's not the kind of person you go for a coffee with.

The belly-dancing gang was great, but they've vanished now (Maria being in prison is an obstacle, obviously.) Let them do other activities and push each other towards goals, maybe enter a competition?

Jenny is a bit lost friendship wise, although she's been turned so sour by TPTB I'm not sure who would suit here. Maybe Michelle.

Leanne and Nick are also quite isolated, but they're so boring they'd send their friends to sleep!

Me too !!
I absolutely loved the scene the other week when he invited Maria back to work & made it clear to her that she had his support!! There's a rich history between the two characters going way back to when Maria lived with Nick at the Platt's for a while & later when a surly teenage David started working at the Salon (through force) & she could get through to him when others couldn't which led of course to him taking a shine to her & all the side story they had while she & Charlie Stubbs were having their affair!!
Since then they have become more like brother & sister at times, bickering but still sharing a bond with each other that comes out on occasions as affectionate, as in that scene I mentioned & a couple of scenes between them after Kylie's death!!

What I do hope however is that his time they don't bring back Maria's friendship with Fiz!!
It was all a little too rushed after the Tyrone stalking s/l when we just never saw them in the same scene for months then all of a sudden Maria was helping Fiz deal with Hope & no real explanation as to how they got there!!
Fast forward a few months to Kate Oates s/l & all of a sudden (rightly imo) that frindship is turned on it's head when Fiz, without even speaking to Maria first, automatically thinks the worst of her & dobbs her in to the police!!
Too much has come between them now imo & I would like to see the Maria/Sarah friendship resurrected & more of her friendship with Michelle which seems to have been shelved yet again in favour of Leanne this time!!
Her friendship with Kate & Eva, sadly, seems dead in the water after Kate's been accusing her of murdering Caz and, before long Eva will discover her betrayal with Aidan!!
I'm also interested how they will write it with Toyah & Maria, as Maria's betrayal with Toyah's (her best friend at the time) lecturer b/f was the reason for Toyah leaving all those years ago!!

Yeah I agree, Sarah has only had two girlfriends on the Street Candice and Maria and since Candice isn't possible I'd like to see Sarah and Maria's friendship again.

Haha!! You know you're talking my language with this one KK!!

That group of young characters, more than anythng else for me made the bridge between 90s Corrie which in the mid stages had become somewhat stale & a Corrie for the new millenium!! It did begin slightly earlier too with Brian Park introducing the Battersby girls & also young Zoe Tattersall & her boyfriend, a couple of 'street urchins' but Zoe of course played by one of the best actresses ever to pass through Corrie making a real impact & giving Ashley, another youngster at the time some much needed impetus for a while!!
It was with Jane Mc Naught after that when the young crowd really took off though and, very tellingly, most of those youngsters were played by young actors who developed a real love for the show & are still around today, their characters now rearing the next generation of youngsters!!
With similar skilled casting of those upcoming youngsters as they reach 'storyline age' & a few friends added in for good measure, there's no reason why the likes of the Alahan twins, Liam, Hope, Ruby, Jack, Jake et al shouldn't form an equally entertaining bunch to take us through into the next ten/ twenty years of the show!!
With the right people in charge there could be excting times ahead again imo!!

I would add Sophie & Kate in with Steph, Sinead & Alya - Sophie used to hang out with Steph quite a lot anyway but that just seemed to get dropped.

Phelan and Anna, not so much a friendship but a mutual hatred of each other and Phelan's little quips to Anna are always good for a laugh.

Steph & Alya I would like to see. In their own ways they see themselves as caring. And they are both dark and pretty.

Leaving aside the age gap, I could see Cathy & Sarah becoming friends.

I don't know about Cathy and Sarah but I'd definitely like to see Sarah and Bethany having more scenes with Roy seeing as he as well as Hayley and Candice are Bethany's godparents:

I agree that Sarah/Maria's friendship being resurrected would be nice. I keep expecting Sarah to have some sort of opinion on Maria's current predicament but so far shes not even acknowledged it. I did also like Michelle and Maria remembering they are family earlier in the year, shame that's been abandoned again when Maria could really do with a few friends on the Street. Everyone on the Street seems to be (or likely to become in the near future) her enemy at the moment: Fiz, Jenny, Kate probably Eva, Leanne and Toyah she could really do with some close friends who have her back not just Aidan, Kirk and Audrey. I actually really liked the evolution of Maria and Fiz's friendship over the years from enemies to frenemies to best friends, it's a shame that's been ruined and with Fiz's current vindictive behaviour i'm sad to say i don't want their friendship back at least not without a lot of grovelling and a hefty apology on Fiz's part.

I'd love to see more of the Liz/Erica/Mary trio, they really are brilliant together. Nice to see Mary hang out with people her own age (ish).

Dev and Steve have always been funny together in a way i just can't take to Tim/Steve. I feel like they try too hard with them that it comes across a bit forced.

Gary and Aidan would probably make nice friends. Maybe not best mates but socialising in the Rovers etc.

Chesney and Sophie were quite close as kids, its a shame as soon as Sophie's sexuality become her only characteristic that their friendship disappeared in favour of whichever mismatched girlfriend they forced on Sophie this week.

I've got everything crossed that this truce over Michael will last for Eileen and Gail. Their feud (and producers insistance to keep trying to recreate their infamous catfight) has been so tiresome for years i'd like them to draw a line under it. Again not best friends all of a sudden but civil. Eileen and Anna should be the new grudge match.

Sally and Gail's friendship needs some work as well. They've been friends for years so with everything the Platts have been through i'd like to see these two old friends really supporting each other not one upping each other and gossiping about the other with other residents (i'm sure Sally's been guilty of this a few times with the factory girls rather than standing up for her).

Rana, Alya and Eva might make an interesting friendship group.

I'd like Gail and Leanne to find some common ground as well.

Robert and Peter could buddy up just to annoy Tracy!

1) I really like that group as well, Liz and Erica are very believable and have a similar kind of character, whilst Mary works well with anyone she's put with.

2) I loved the Dev and Steve scene we had a couple of months back for what seemed the first time in ages, seeing as Peter is friends with both of them as well, why not see more scenes of them as a trio?

3) Chesney and Sophie were adorable when they were little but as you say that has been forgotten about now, I'm not sure it would work now just because they've been apart for so long and Sophie's character has changed quite a lot.

4) I think Eva's too old for Rana and Alya, she's the perfect age for Maria.

Yh the Eva, Maria, Kate & Sophie gym squad is going to be over.

Maria hates Kate (You'll see next week)
Eva will fall out with Maria & Kate when the affair is found out.

That would leave Kate and Sophie the only friends left out of that group which will probably lead to them getting together when Sophies back.

I think Yasmeen needs some friends now that she's on her own. I don't like Cathey at all, but her and Roy have been pals to Yasmeen previously and she she should surround herself with good people after her so called best friends betrayal.

Craig is lacking in mates of his own age- Daniel seems to be a sensitive, intellectual type so maybe something to be explored there.

When you think about it there's so many opportunities that could be explored. Sometimes random pairings work, I love Erica and Mary for example. And although I can't stand Tracy, I loved her and Todd together. Producers should definitely mix things up a little and get the cast interacting.
