From my point of view, because she is competent at everything that is asked of her, she is just as good at Bjork as she is at a mainstream ballad, as she is at a disco number, as she is at a 1950s musical number etc, etc, she comes across as genre-less, a singing bot rather than passionate about the music she will be singing. I get the impression that if they gave them Rap Week, she would show Honey G how it's done.

They are making strong suggestions that Emily has a preferred style of music and she performed as such this weekend; I think it's plainly obvious what type of a singer Matt is going to be - you can see the type of songs he excels at; 5AM are never going to be singing Songs from the Shows!

If this show were judged the same way as Strictly (ie, following the public vote, the judges judge the bottom 2 fairly and the worst dancer always goes) Saara would make the final and probably win. She is the most accomplished singer and therefore should win a singing competition. But the show is 'X Factor' and IMO that is PRECISELY what she lacks! She does not have that certain je ne sais quoi, that little bit of uniqueness that makes her special. She is (as someone in another thread put into words) the perfect session singer - a safe bet to put down a reliable vocal, free from any character or personal identity; proficient, but ultimately soulless.

I don't think so. Saara would destroy 5 After Midnight. 5 After Midnight didn't sound good at all when singing together. The only decent singer is the lad with the short hair.

She may have hit a wrong pitch at the end but the rest was very good. Was it just like Agnetha singing? No. I think Saara sang it slightly differently and taking this into consideration, I thought she sang it very good. Like I said though, she hit a wrong pitch at the end.

Agree about Emily that that is what she's most suited for, but is that HER preference, her musical identity? In her first 6CC she did Anything Could Happen, that's not folk or country, that to me suggests she wants to do pop.



I don't think it is. What type of singer is he going to be, in your opinion? I can't describe it - will he be a carbon copy of Sam Smith (and do we need one of those), is he going to try to attract a younger or an older audience? I have no idea.

That's probably because Emily likes Pop Music, but the show is suppose to guide these people in the direction that suits them most, and Emily isn't Pop, she even sings Rock songs better that's how little she is a Pop singer.

Yeah, agreed. Which is precisely why I don't really get the criticism of Saara not yet having a specific genre, as no one else does either.

I can tell what Saara's style of Music is and I'd like to think that most people can too.

I love the way every year this is thrown in as an insult. Singing in musical theatre takes so much more basic talent and training than being the "recording artist" that X Factor is looking for. Proper musical theatre doesn't allow miming, autotune, backing dancers and singers to cover up weak vocals - it needs somebody who can sing live up to eight times a week, as well as acting, moving and, depending on the show, dancing. I'd be delighted if I went on X Factor and they told me my future was in musicals!

That said, I don't automatically see musical theatre in Saara's future. She has a great technical voice, fantastic control but I have no idea what her acting is like. Her performances are, although very good, still very technical rather than blowing me away with her 100% emotional committment which is what you need for convincing theatre.

The show should have it's place for all sorts of singers, which would include theatrical types like Saara.

However on X Factor you have to be a Pop balladeer to win with a loud booming vocal that doesn't even necessarily sound like a song is being produced but instead how many notes I'll try and hit through I Will Always Love You.

The public in all countries that have singing shows all vote for MOR, never anything with an actual style which Saara does have, just not a Pop chart style.

Okay, found this post. I now don't think she hit an obvious wrong pitch at the end. I think it was just the way Saara sings. She didn't hit a flat pitch so she must have hit roughly a good enough one. She sang about the same when in a Finnish interview and sang a little bit from the film, Frozen. I think it's just her style when it comes to certain pitches.
