Every time he does this or apologises, he sets himself up to be patronised. He needs to stop worrying what they think.

It's getting hard to watch him getting shot down every time he opens his mouth.

He was trying to help but no-way were they going to give him kudos for his suggestion... until 😁 😁

Martin is in a difficult position. He knows whatever he says he will be shot down. I thought that would stop when Danny went.

Martin seems to be coping with it quite well, though. Thank goodness, he appears to be able to see the funny side.

I'm not liking or even understand why they keep knocking him down like that. Especially Larry! How dare he speak to him like that? His short straw idea was great! then they berated him for suggesting it and then they all decided to go with it anyway!

Precisely!

His level of tolerance and ability to shrug off criticism is a wonder to behold.

He does seem to recognise this in himself as he mentioned it a couple of days ago, in that he needs to be liked. I'd imagine that's what's at the bottom of most of his behaviour.

Oh I think Danny has trained them all well.

Classic school behaviour, the kid who doesn't fit so desperately trying to and the pack mentality too scared to go against the leader.

If Scarlet and Sam thought Larry was in the wrong then why the hell didn't they confront him?

I hear about this kind of behaviour from my teenager on a regular basis. It's disgusting.

I don't blame him for placating someone hectoring him like that. Larry wanted aggro but didn't get it and so just ended up looking mean.

Martin's up for panto style confrontation, even mistakenly thinking that's what the show was about when he entered (and he found that kind of panto banter with Adam), but he's not up for real, personal aggression. Larry and Danny weren't looking to banter with him though, just to mark his card.

None of them really like him in truth. Lisa and Carol seem most tolerant and grown up about living with his annoying traits but some of the others just looked pathetic last night pretending they liked him so they didn't look bad.

I suppose at least Larry is being honest about how he feels.

It is like school

You have the "cool" gang and Martin is not part of it and no matter how hard he will try the likes of Larry will never let it happen

Larry likes being the leader of the camp and he has already chosen who should be there with him

I wonder what class Larry thinks he is

I've thought this from the start. They seemed to welcome Danny with open arms, especially Larry and Scarlett, whilst Martin was left out slightly, which wasn't helped by his slight overreaction with regards to the "gloating" situation.

He's obviously got the viewing public well sussed too.
Our Martin's certainly not as green as he's cabbage looking. For "I want to be liked" read, Machiavellian little boy heart rending excuse for trampling over anyone to grab maximum attention and airtime and he's done it in spades. Constantly wind them up and watch them blow. Does he hell want to be liked.
At least Carol knows how to handle it and had the maturity to ignore the buggers childish antics in their task

I think we have to remember we are not seeing the whole picture just an edited version, and I also think Martin is a devious little boy who likes to be at the centre of everything and never really grew up!

Carol is ace.

Indeed he is, very devious and very good at it and it gets him the attention he craves, any attention being better than none
Carol's the star of the show for me now. Especially after she saved Martin's embarrassment and took one for the team by selecting him first for the task.
He didn't give a stuff about trying to win for her sake, deliberately arsed about like an idiot rather than dare to try and risk losing something again. Typical childish bad loser antics.

The man operates on low cunning, with his own special dash of Baldrick-like incompetance.

I love how he's being applauded for 'being so protective of Scarlett' in the DD challenge, as if that warrants praise!! Well done, 54yr old man for behaving like a grown up!! Yay for Martin!!

That the bar is set so low for him says it all.

Love it

Baby adults gain low bar setting from people who need to over-protect others and keep them as helpless babies who need them. All immature emotional needs met, Martin and his wife.
He's demonstrated daily that he's able to look after himself and get the max parental attention, his greatest need, in the process.
FFS he's even had them spoon feeding him

I reckon Carol told him she wasn't bothered about being a royal or the banquet. I think the two of them made a pact to let the others fight it out and Martin played the fool for a bit of fun. "Watch out Matin!" was funny

Sometimes it does just come down to learning from experience about how to to deal with the Martin, Larry and Danny's of the world.

Could be. She has to be bored witless, anything for a bit of light relief.

I'm sure it helps! Wise woman.

A far better person than me. They'd be in a pot of stew if I had to suffer them

Do you remember Janet Street-Porter? I don't care much for her but my god she was brilliant in this show and really sorted out the men from the boys.
