It wouldn't be so bad if H&A staged the departures differently. They always leave in clusters which is beyond ridiculous. Have actors leaving throughout the year not in damn clumps. 90s H&A had most characters never reach three years but how they staged the departures never felt this jarring.

I really thought Zac & Phoebe would buck the trend and stay longer but nope. I'd like to know how fans deal with characters on a countdown as soon as they start.

Not to be mean but half of these departures are never going to make it in Hollywood. The Aussie soaps haven't produced a star since Margot Robbie. Luke Mitchell is the closest thing and most of his projects either tank out of the gate or he never lasts long in the shows.

I agree with sexy princess - however no matter how many husbands Leah goes through, she'll be in Home and Away forever more.

I find it hard to invest in Home and Away characters because you know that when they arrive their days are numbered.

It's such a shame that they can't keep their cast. It ruins the show, I turned off years ago, tuned in again a year later and only knew two or three people.

There's a core of characters that are generally safe from the chop but the rest seem pretty much disposable.

This is exactly why my favorites all happen to be the long timers, because I can't invest in all the others who leave within a few years. I'm quite glad if Phoebe leaves though I used to like her but she just gets in my nerves now and I can't really take to the Morgans (especially not Justin with whom she has the most scenes with)

The long term characters are so much better. Irene Leah Alf Roo etc.

I didn't mind the comings and goings of the younger cast when they were being fostered as that seemed to be in keeping with their situation. I feel H & A lost it's way when the fostering was dropped and the awful Braxtons arrived and (in my opinion) ruined the show so much that I didn't watch for ages.

Also more emphasis on the school means that coming and going is more natural and the main older people, such as Leah, Irene, Alf and Roo could still be there as mainstayers.

Such a shame they don't seem to have any other school-teachers than Zak!

Isn't Phoebe meant to do some teaching up there, I'm sure she had a scene there with Eloy when trying to get through to her about Matt, saying she had a class later

Poor Leah! I don't watch the show, but on the odd occasion that I tune in, she always seems to have a new husband! What a pity that H&A cannot find an actor to stick around - especially as Ada has made it clear that she has no plans to leave. Maybe she should get together with Alf!

Sometimes I don't think it's always the actors fault. Sure most of them want to run off to Hollywood at their first chance, but ever since H&A implemented their stupid two or three appearance rule per week (to cut costs) for most of the cast sans Roo & Alf we have seen no new young mainstays. Martha was the last.

I would not be surprised at all if the usual three years and you're out has been dictated by channel 7 executives to keep the costs low and hiring new, young fresh actors dirt cheap and axing them before they can ask for more money is the way to go.

I'm quite shocked Charlie Clausen is leaving. He tried Hollywood ten years ago and failed. He also didn't secure many acting jobs in Australia before H&A. Sure he might want to try other things, but H&A would be a great paying job for only have to film two to four episodes a week (presumably they film six episodes so they can go dark a couple of weeks in August, to save even more money).

Cornelia Frances, Lisa Gormley & Johnny Ruffo have all expressed interest in staying long term in the past year. Sure Johnny had problems, but these were the same execs that turned a blind eye to cast affairs, sextapes and drug binges. Some fines, whilst serious, still didn't usually warrant such a quick termination by Channel 7's standards.

Steve Peacocke's been in quite a few things but hasn't become a 'name' yet.

The coming and going just doesn't bother me like it does others.

P.S. Chris HEMSWORTH played Kim HYDE.
