Why are the Cliftons unpopular?

Just been reading various threads on here and this theme runs through a few of them - I hate the Cliftons or Kevin is Len's favourite etc. What are the reasons behind this I wonder. I quite like Kevin and Joanne. Does this dislike run through all the different series and what's it based on? We all have favourites but I just don't get the reasons for the dislike or even hatred of people you've never met.

I think people resent the fact that Kevin has had four possible winners in the four years he has been on the show. He has never had a duffer or no-hoper. This seems to have rubbed off on Joanne and slightly on Karen.

Also they seemed to shout and yell from the Claudatorium last year whenever a Clifton danced. It was particularly noticeable how they reacted to Jay dancing when he got good marks - not happy! Also the rampant over-marking of Kellie last year made everything seem so unfair to the other contestants.

Sorry, whenever I hear of the Cliftons in this dynasty way, I can only hear the music of The Waltons.

Kevin is a bit of a wally. Was there not some bad blood between Joanne and one of the other female dancers .

Karen always seems nice to me.

Too many of them, it's a family show, their family show.

IMO it has a lot to do with Kevin being in the finals against some forum favourites multiple times. I've read some IMO valid reasons why he's not some people's cup of tea, but it doesn't warrant the character assassination he (and Karen/Jo) get. Many fans have invented conspiracy theories to support the intese dislike, and in small portion of more involved fandom it's got some traction.

He is a bit favoured but on the other hand I think it's because he's talented and can make routinues that are good out of whatever bananas the producers throw at him both in terms of theming - surfing dances, Star Wars and Halloweon charlestons and bad music - tango to Defying Gravity.

Louise is not disliked because of him she's disliked because of the judges over-marking of her and because she's a bit dull - I'm not sure if the first one is linked to Kevin but the second isn't.

Simples. Some people find it necessary to dislike someone famous. It matters not if there is a valid reason, because they will make one up.

Look at the Apprentice forum. This year Karren Brady is getting stick, pretty much because the comedian who fronts the 'Fired' programme likes to run outakes of Karren.

The overmarking and her being dull are just opinions. They're not facts. Yet theyre thrown in thread after thread as facts.

I like your comment about Kevin being able to make good routines out of everything. I think that's often overlooked, his ability to make lemonade out of lemons, and the judges notice this, appreciate it, and reward him with good marks.

I don't think they are unpopular with the general viewing public. I think the 'dislike' for them is specific to a small number of people on this forum who post a lot

It will be a new Strictly curse, to get a Clifton as their dance partner.

I've seen a few comments on the SCD facebook page and on the DM responses to comments, particularly the latter, about favouritism.

Karen and Joanne have had their fair share of duds. Kevin hasn't. I was so pleased that Joanne has a fairly decent dance partner this year because I think she has been able to demonstrate was a fantastic choreographer she is. I've been very impressed with her choreography and her partnership with Ore seems very genuine.
Kevin could walk on with a mannequin dummy and still get high scores. I do think he is overmarked. Every partner he's has has been elevated, by the judges, to the higher echelons of dance excellence. Louise I really do think is average, not the exceptionally fantastic dancer the judges rave about. The waltz last night, imo, was one of their best dances in the show so far second only to I think the viennese waltz.
Every year he and his partners are constantly over hyped and I think people get tired of it.

Their egos (particularly Kevin's) get massaged by the judges.

I don't understand the dislike of them. It just seems unessessary to me.

Because people have other favourite pros and they feel that the Cliftons get a better deal than them. Because they think the show has some sort of vested interest in promoting them over the other pros. Something like that. It's all a bit daft and conspiracy theory like really.

I neither massively support nor dislike any of them. I've been very impressed with Jo's choreography this year though. It showed when they had the salsa and charleston - their weakest dances and the ones she didn't choreograph. The paso she managed to make out of that song last night was superb.

Kevin is from Grimsby and going off the recent film of the same name, it is hell on earth. That's why I dislike him.

I think it was between Karen and Ola Jordan in 2013. Allegedly, Karen bullied Ola during a pro dance rehearsal; It affected Karen popularity badly.

I hope the Judge scoring of Ore won't affect Joanne; she's a great dancer and has a very interesting personality. She's probably my favorite pro dancer after Natalie.

As for Kevin, I found the "grimsby" gimmick very lame; he can't do sexy in IMHO; he never get bad dancer; he gets over scored... It is aggravating. However, he does good choreography and he must be a good teacher; he always get the best out of his partner.

To start with, I disliked all three equally. Now I like Jo. She comes over as a genuine nice unspoiled girl.
Karen I like because she is so outspoken
Kevin I dislike intensely, but, to be fair, is it his fault he is always given a good dancer, favoritism in the choice of dance/music for Blackpool etc and is consistently over marked?I f I were him I would take it!

The way the producers tried to big up Kevin and Kellie before and during the Final last year was clearly evident. Trying to make it a two horse race instead of the one horse race it was, and had been since week 2 or 3. The public knew who they wanted though, and voted correctly. Made for a very uncomfortable and sour Final though.

Louise is decent at ballroom but not so hot at Latin - same as Claudia. She's absolutely no better a dancer, and you certainly can't call her exciting, but for some strange reason the producers are slowly turning up the heat under her and Kevin, and already the over marking is preposterous ! Danny was easily the best in the chachathon, Louise shouldn't have won it. If Kevin gets to the Final we should expect it to go completely OTT in favour of him and Louise - it'll be nauseating.

Because the favouritism towards them (mostly Kevin) becomes more obvious as the years go on.

I find Kevin a bit cringe and OTT. I also felt in previous series, especially with frankie, that he had a tendency to overdance at the expense of his celeb. However I don't especially dislike him beyond that.

I do sometimes feel that there is a bit of cliquieness within the scd pros that I don't really like, and that both the cliftons and Janette and aljaz seem to pushed to the forefront more than any other dancers and shoved down our throats a bit.
