This is a board, I just answered your post. Not personal.

The rest made me laugh I had a thing about the romance between Marina and Troy in Stingray. I was very young.

Team America is worth a watch. The sex scene is unbelievably hilarious.

Maybe a wee lie down with a cuddly blanket and a nice beaker of warm milk might make you feel a bit happier. ”

What a totally unnecessary and personal post about someone who was purely stating that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Is it any wonder people turn against the Cliftons when people like you are defending them.

Now that is silly. I hate the Cliftons because x poster on Digital Spy criticises me for having a negative opinion about them.

Wow!

Did you really just post that? Are you seriously trying to justify your criticism of the Cliftons on here by blaming me for holding a differing point of view?

I hate to break this to you.... but we are all individually responsible for the things we post online. Nobody makes you or provokes you into making critical comments. You choose to do that of your own free will.

Trying to suggest that a third party individual causes you (or anyone else) to post critical, abusive and derogatory things about Kevin, Karen or Joanne Clifton is probably one of the most remarkable negations of personal responsibility I have ever read.

Quite extraordinary.

But of course, maybe it was just a joke.

One reason for the anti sentiment might be, the liberties that one person gets away with, compared to other professionals.

It was not quite clearly a joke as no one seemed to find it funny except you
And to top it you them accuse others of having no sense of humour

I don't hate the Clintons, I don't think about them or care enough about them to hate them.

Certain people do seem very invested in defending them, as is their right of course. Although this determined defence does seem to develop into hyperbolic language (BIB) at times.

ETA...Any position you take surely cannot be advanced by personal insults towards fellow posters

I clearly remember how hated Natalie was during her first series on here, when she had Ricky Whittle on a pro. Because it appeared so easy for her because he was accomplished already I think the audience struggled with a connection with her and treated her overwhelming positivity hard to handle as it felt like she was rubbing people's faces in it. I think opinions started to mellow in the following series when she was gifted a, on paper, ringer who ended up a sleep deprived zombie... and yet the positivity continued. But it was her time with Audley and Michael, two celebrities who clearly struggled with the basics, which won the majority over and she's now one of the most popular pros on DS.

So I wouldn't be surrpised if Kevin is left dancing with the weakest or oldest female celebrity with good grace and humour that he will gain more fans and the vitirol will reduce - especially if Jo and Karen (all three had strong contenders this year) also suffer to do a degree with the pick as well.

The other issue with him making the finals all the time is we haven't seen the non-teacher side of him very much - he's been training right through every series he's been in whereas the evicted pros have had backstage chats without celebs, appeared on It Takes Two for interviews or Dance Cards, doing skits etc. They've been allowed to show themselves rather than reacting to someone else and that's made it easier for people to connect with them; for example, I think Jo gained some support after her appearance on Choreography Corner.

Well that was apparently an error of judgment on my part but it was intended to be a joke at any rate and was certainly not intended to upset anyone.

And that's not a joke.

I think posters should desist as it's against the rules to attack other posters. ML criticised another, they posted a strong rebuttal, others criticised her, she says her initial post was a joke, others say it's not funny ... Enough. This thread is about feelings towards the Clifton dancers. It's not a pile upon Moany Liza or anyone else, whichever way their feelings send them. If you don't like her post, DS invites you to ignore her. If you feel she's acted out of turn, DS invites you to report.

Crikey we've all had error of judgements. I once thought George Michael was destined to marry me and tartan pedal pushers were an epic fashion choice......

This is also not a joke!

Maggie,

What you describe is the last thing I want to happen. I was advocating against personally driven posts, towards any poster. I felt regret that the thread had taken that direction....I was enjoying reading others opinions till then.

I hope the thread can move on from this.

I hope my post didn't look like a dig a Moany Liza - I was trying to lighten the tone a bit but could have easily got it wrong.

That's always the problem with threads asking why X and X are criticised; they tend to get bogged down in mud slinging as much between the posters as anything else.

BIB - neither do I, but this isn't about US politics.

It's not about defending the Cliftons per se. I would probably say the same about any of the pros who who were on the receiving end of this relentless barrage of criticism. They've not been drowning kittens - just teaching people to dance on telly!

Just for the record. I won't be backing down on this - particularly when someone sees fit to suggest that it is defence of the Cliftons which is the cause of the continuous criticism of them. As an analogy, that's the same sort of ridiculous logic that a school bully would employ in such circumstances - suggesting that the bullying is caused by people defending the subject of the bullying behaviour.

I'll continue to respond as and when I see fit to do so. If you choose to condemn me for speaking up for people being continually picked over when they've done nothing wrong, then go ahead.

Incidentally, I did not deliver any personal insults or name-calling as someone else wrongly claimed. It was a bit of teasing in response to quite a vociferous onslaught of criticism - and suggesting it was more than that is over-egging the pudding completely.

If you - and others - don't like what I have to say in response to the constant criticism of the Cliftons, then I respectfully suggest you scroll past or add me to your ignore list. Now, it might be an idea to draw a line under this and get back to the topic of the thread instead of tearing lumps out of me.

I really do understand what you're saying, honestly.

I don't think I tore any lumps out of you, and I am very sorry if that's how it came across. I was trying to politely point out that I thought that things has gotten a bit personal and language somewhat exaggerated.

I am more than happy to draw a line under this and futher discuss my indifference towards that other dynastic Clinton family (the non-political one )

Not you specifically - it was more of a collective "you" directed towards anyone who has taken issue with my posts.

I'm not interested in trading insults with other forum members and I am genuinely sorry that the post which caused the upset, apparently did so. That was not my intention - but foolishly I thought the addition of a smiley at the end would make it apparent that I was not being serious.
