I feel Larry had to try and get back up from the rest when Danny was gone, thankfully he hasnt got what he wanted.

I feel that the two women watching should have said something. Martin already feels like he can only do wrong and really needed outside backup on that one.

Martin is kind of annoying at times, especially when he hung up the phone and stuff -- there was no need for that. This time he wasn't in the wrong, just a bit overzealous.

When Wayne said to Larry that Martin was harmless and Larry replied that he had been "rendered helpless " I thought that was the most sinister and agressive statement. How dare he think its right to render another person helpless. Larry taking over from Danny on belittling and undermining Martin at every opportunity. Nasty man.

I believe the girls at least are seeing Larry for what he really is, a spiteful old man and also beginning to see a better side to Martin, and I agree about the "rendered helpless" comment. That was awful.

Larry said and I quote, "He's harmless because he's rendered harmless." which is exactly what's happening. I don't know where that leaves your "most sinister and aggressive statement" claim. Larry allowed Martin to push him too far, he was OTT in his reaction and he knows it. Hence his inane self justification attempt and bitching session with the ever malleable and disingenuous Wayne.
Martin's harmless when people stop him playing his pantomime roles and don't allow him to get to them. A rather bizarre polarised mix of pantomime villain/ attention hungry victimised baby.
As a result there's been a big improvement in Martins attitude and behaviour and he's enjoying himself far more with glimmers of a decent adult appearing. Good for him and good to see.

I doesn't matter whether the term was harmless or helpless. It's really the "rendered" part that suggests that control has been exerted over Martin to force him to act in a certain way. That still is an aggressive statement from Larry, who I loved in the beginning. My opinion of him is now completely turned around because he has sadly revealed himself to be manipulative and sly.

Exactly who is Larry or anyone to have the power to render another person harmless. I feel like anyone other than Martin can make a comment and its fine, if Martin makes a comment certain folk just jump straight down his throat. I know martin seems quite needy but appears to be a decent blokd at heart. Doesnt deserve to be shot down in flames every time he opens his mouth. Pack mentality is ugly

Martins wife mentioned that he found bullying awful , and I wonder if he has been bullied himself when young.

It really is like watching a pack of lions at times like this. Larry is the self-proclaimed Lion King of the jungle. He has his younger cubs in Adam, Joel, Wayne and Jordan. The women are the lionesses - not wanting to rock the boat with the Alpha male, now they've seen what he's capable of. Martin is a lone lion, who has joined the pack late and is trying to integrate himself into the pack (taking over the pack didn't work), and Larry has gone all territorial on him! I'm surprised he hasn't peed round Martin's hammock...


Yes, he had a real Archie Mitchell quality to him during that show. I agree - I loved him at the beginning, but would like to see him leave next.

They haven't exactly tied him up and gagged him as we are all too aware. It wasn't an aggressive statement at all. It was a statement of fact and necessary with someone like Martin. Larry isn't one of my favourites but he's not manipulative or sly and he told Martin to his face exactly what he was annoyed about and he went too far out of sheer frustration. Not that it's an excuse. I have no doubt at all that he wouldn't say anything behind his back that he wouldn't dare say to his face, unlike some of them, including two faced Wayne.
Why should anyone allow bumptious Martin to trample over them, constantly get his own way or carry on dragging down the mood in camp? He's lightened up considerably, thanks to his friendship with Adam and the other "lads" and people being honest with him for his own sake and the camp
Martin isn't anyone's victim, he winds them up deliberately to get attention and airtime and he gets exactly what he wants from it. He's more than able to look after himself.
Give him his due, he's far more of a team player now and actually appears to be enjoying growing up a bit.

It would be a boring show if they were all "wonderful people" as Larry describes everyone other than Martin. It's the flaws in people that make them interesting. And everyone has flaws - some people are just better at hiding them

While I have no argument with the above, I think the flawed Larry can be forgiven for his loss of patience with the equally flawed but infinitely more testing Martin.

Anyway, it's done now and they all seem to have reached an understanding and acceptance of each other's flawed and funny little ways.

Maybe Martin as a latecomer, not knowing much about the show and partnered with Danny who never shuts up , Martin felt he had to do something outrageous and be obnoxious to stand out, or maybe he thought he wouldnt be wanted by the then family unit in there,,, I dont think hes nearly as sure of himself as he makes out... I also feel hes been badly bullied at school too which could make him act the way he did in the beginning......Im only guessing here, but what a star hes turned out to be and I hope he keeps it up, Im loving it.

Martin never shuts up either and he had a rival in Danny for centre stage, another thing he obviously played out in his first few days. According to Danny, Martin hadn't seen the show and had zero knowledge of what it was about. He'd assumed it was like the nastiness of Big Brother, not team work and gamesmanship where they supported each other. He's obsessed with the world of showbiz which didn't come as any surprise, nor does him writing children's books.

He's learned a lot of necessary things about himself which was inevitable, living 24/7 in isolated tough and intense close confines with 11 adult strangers of varying "status" and tolerance levels. It's either that or he thought he needed to start behaving decently to get votes. Either way it's good to see him now able to enjoy himself and I hope it continues.

Its ignorant to whisper is it not and to whisper in a way to try to control another camp mate is even worse, and thats what he was doing.... it wasnt talking in low tones about something personal, it was having a bash at someone in the camp to hopefully gain backup . Larry I think was about to get them all one by one and give them the same talk in whispers as he sees Martins acceptance in the camp now and he doesnt want that, It wasnt us who noticed it, it was the shows producers..

In fairness, Larry has had enough.... he is getting visibly very thin in there and according to Lisa both he and Carol really are done and want to go but don't want to quit. It is quite possible that the chat re Martin was deliberate to piss off the viewers and get himself out of there. It didn't work last night, but it will be interesting to see if he ups the antics on tonight's show.

You could be right, I think he knows he losing his old wise man power a bit and that the rest are adult enough to carry on by themselves, but he had a good standing in the jungle , why would he blow that, its his reputation after all..

He's hardly the first person to talk about Martin to other camp mates or in the bush telegraph. Wayne most certainly has and on one occasion went to Martin and lied. He was doing it again with Larry, in fact who hasn't?
Martin's been insufferable for a lot of people and we see a few minutes of him each evening on a TV screen. I'm sure he was put in there because of his personality as this years camp obnoxious contestant to cause friction. The selection team have far more knowledge about them and their reputation in real life than the vast majority of the public.
Most of them have hushed conversations in camp, just the same and I don't really see why they shouldn't. Who wants every bored witless camp mate listening to every conversation they have?
