Like others have said, Louie and Sharon ignored some amazing acts and put in mediocre ones instead. I feel sorry for the amazing singers, especially on Sharon's team, that didn't get through.

for me the show just has no sense of direction

it picks predominantly young contestants then styles them in a quite dated way and has them sing songs from a bland, limited songlist

it seems to forget that the typical saturday night TV audience probably grew up listening to music influenced by punk/new wave and on to brit pop and the start of house/garage rather than "The very best of high school disco - volumes 1-17"

it needs to stop catering to the lowest common denominator and stop with all the scripted bollocks from the judges and give proper constructive feedback, if an act is crap and out of tune i want to hear the judges tell them they were crap and out of tune

stop covering up for contestants flaws with over-elaborate staging, heavy backing tracks and miming, and give the acts more say in what they sing and let them develop their own identity if they know what that is.
They've always styled the overs (most of whom are about 28) like 60 year old cabaret singers and now they're doing the same to 19 year olds.

As you say, todays parents sat at home with their kids watching are more likely to have spent their formative years at warehouse raves or Glastonbury rather than listening to bland tosh.

They do aim the show at people who don't really have any interest in music. Is there anyone on the planet who really needs to hear another wailing version of And I'm Telling You or I Will Always Love You sung by a 25 year old in a ballgown who, if left to her own devices, would be covering Fetty Wap or J Cole dressed like she was going clubbing.

And you're right - You look like a pop star as a critique is a cop out for someone who has just done a piss poor out of tune version of s shit song

I think musically we've all evolved somewhat most people are now far more musically intelligent than they were (probably due to the digital age) The show simply hasn't kept pace with this.

It refuses to allow contestants any kind of creative license and in fact positively discourages artistry or creativity.

I'd like to see them advising contestants about song choice and wardrobe etc but allowing them to make final choices themselves that way we'd get to see the real potential artist in any contestant and each would stand or fall by their own sword.

They also have too many ad breaks nowadays. That's another reason.

One act and then an ad break for 5+ or so minutes, then another 5 mins of an act then another 5 mins of ads...no thanks.
This is probably because falling viewer numbers have affected what they can charge for advertising so achieve the same or similar ad revenues they need more breaks

Getting rid of the best people at judges houses and putting through the worst joke acts in the history of the show for controversy

Even most people still watching are doing so out of habit rather than interest
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks that. I gave up after the judges' houses, putting the beyond dire Bratavio or whatever they were called was appalling, then Honey G...
I just felt they were taking the p!!s out of the audience.

I gave up on it about 3 years ago. Too much manipulation and really poor people being put through.

I really enjoyed it back in the day, but it's run its course and it needs to be put down but Cowell will cling on for dear life until its only Sinitta watching, out of loyalty.

Errr...ratings were/are falling long before HG and co had entered the competition. ..
Who wants to watch this dire show these days? ?? Lost the concept of finding original talent when Simon and Co started getting personal about the contestants themselves and not judging them on their singing skills etc. Just don't care about the show anymore, ratings will never rise up back to what it used to be! !!

Jennifer Hudson is now part of the Voice this year......should be so interesting to watch. ..that will be more credible compared to the XFactor!!!

The problem is putting dire acts through to the lives and getting rid of all the talent.

I stopped watching when I read who went through to the lives as it was stupid. I actually like the judges and think the panel is probably the best since the Series 5-7 days.

Its just stupid production decisions which are ruining the show
I agree - it looked like it had returned to form until they reverted back to putting people through that they thought would make good telly. Some people want to watch actual talent on a talent show.

I still record it and FFWD through the show in about 20 mins. It's definitely not essential viewing any more and I haven't voted for years.

I think the entire format is way too tired now. Even without unfunny joke acts like Honey G, I doubt the ratings would be any better as there just isn't anywhere left for X Factor to go. I admit it's only part of the problem, what with Strictly being just as repetitive yet retaining its audience, but X Factor just feels so stale now.

They need to decide if they want to make a music show or a scripted reality entertainment show, pick one and go whole hog into it, not keep trying year on year to go halfway house between the two.

I wonder if The Voice coming to ITV means there will be a divide where that is the serious (ish) singing contest and XF becomes a musical BGT with novelty acts, boybands, kids etc

Spot on. They should just 'come out' and then people will move into the acceptance phase that it is scripted.

The format is just running its course. Singing shows are down all over the place. And while Cowell honestly had some interesting perspectives to share over the first handful of seasons, it's all old hat at this point.

I've said it before, but in general these days virtually any soloist with great commercial prospects will be discovered and signed off social media without having to subject themselves to the reality TV meat grinder. There aren't hidden gems lurking out there the same way there were a decade ago. No amazing stars = viewers switching off.

The future is going to be mixed talent shows, as BGT and AGT are both still doing well. Maybe there will be the occasional show where they make a group, but that might not even be a thing. At the moment the entire west is basically down to 2 girlbands.

The show has become a parody of itself, "this was your moment" etc

Very good points.
