Oh the irony, after the Lib Dem candidate practically called Leavers thick racists.

Read: "Anyone who disagrees with me = dishonourable"

No-one owes him anything. People vote for the representatives who will best represent their views and wishes.

Leave voting seat . Liberals would need a 25% swing. Everyone standing. A more typical seat - does labour's vote hold up, does UKIPs? Next door to a Labour marginal.

But,but,I'm not sure it was clear that was what they were voting for,how do they know if it wasn't on the ballot paper? Maybe someone needs to challenge it in court?

Yes were they voting to stop Heathrow Expansion, or to reverse the referendum result?

Go on then. See how far you get.

I have to say this is a stonking victory for remain.

It sends a huge message to the hardline brexiteers that voters do not want what you think they want. But I think the message is already being heard, even David Davis yesterday has raised the chances the gov will pursue a single market deal with us paying into the club with free movement.

The game is nearly up for the brexiteers. We're going to win the long war after losing one battle.

All it 'says' is that remainers don't accept the result of the referendum.

They have no idea of the economic consequences to Richmond of this vote.

Its a common complaint with Brexiters that people keep accusing them of being stupid, but with posts like the above, is it any wonder the stupid charge is used?

FYI, Dan - nobody challenged the result of the referendum in court, they challenged the use of the Royal Prerogative to invoke Article 50. Do you understand the difference?

Yes just think of all those jobs they will lose if they don't build the runway there.

We must over turn this result as the people didn't vote to harm Richmond.

It tells politicians what will happen to them if they support hard brexit. They will lose their jobs. Hard brexit just died a total death tonight.

No it doesn't. It was a byelection where 2 parties didn't even stand. And it was a high Remain voting area.

Lets see what happens to a Remainer in a pro leave area.

Oh, I know you're taking the piss. Your piss take is a total misfire because you apparently don't understand what you're trying to take the piss out of.

All it says is a 70% Remain area voted for a Remain candidate. It actually says the voters of either persuasion will take advantage of by-elections to vote on Brexit. Leave voters will vote for Leave candidates in Leave areas.

.......and where a load of remainers still voted Goldsmith (he got 45% of the vote, in an area where 30% voted leave).

It was always going to be a tough one for him. I thought he'd probably still win. He backed himself into a corner when he made the commitment to stand down over the 3rd runway.

This is just the start towards that ultimate prize, but believe me tonight's result is a stunning upset and will have the government very worried.

On the money again I see. Lol 😃😎

Out of touch. Who is? 😉

Yes the trouble was that he already had the Anti Heathrow vote, but he lost the Leavers to the Lib Dems.
