The Lib Dem candidate looks very happy so I suppose it's a done deal that she has won.

And at a time of one of the worst party leaders ever.

How many times can Diane Abbot say extrapolate?

This has put a halt to any plans for an early election.

It strikes me what this is saying is that there is a chasm in centre of UK politics. Lib Dems are filling it here. If only a charismatic leader could emerge there is a huge vote for the taking from Labour and Tories.

A Lib Dem source says:

We’re calling it. We’ve won. We’ve overturned a 23,000 majority.

Tim Farron will be even more insufferable i think.

Yeah, avoid the news tomorrow!

Probably will be different next week though! The by-election is at a vote leave area next week.

Zac only just won in 2010 - and 2015 was the lowest of the low for the LDs so it was an outlier based on the seats history..

In honesty, the Tories could have held this seat if they had put someone up who shared the same views as the constituents. There was only the LibDems to vote for considering how many Zac Goldsmith probably pissed off by calling the by-election.

You would assume the Tories will hold that easily.

Hilary Clinton will probably win it for the Democrats considering how this year has gone!

Don't like Tories when they veer right. It's what they've done so losses like this are maybe to be expected.

I think the Tories made a mistake by assuming he'd win. I don't think it's about veering to the right. The Tories have usually always been more towards the right.

Good win for the LibDems. Credit where it's due. Not a totally massive victory though. Less than 2000. But, that's what you get when you're arrogant enough to believe that you are more popular than you really are.
