Please bring to this thread your appreciation for Giovanni Pernice, as a professional dancer and choreographer, who brought a shot of sizzling Sicilian style when he joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2015. Giovanni trained and competed as a Latin dancer before joining Strictly. His competitive career highlight was winning the Italian Championships at Rimini in 2012, with his professional partner Erika Attisano.

Gio was partnered with ex-Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote in 2015, reaching the Final, where they achieved a perfect 40 for their sensational Chicago-themed Charleston.

In 2016, Gio was partnered with TV host and presenter Laura Whitmore, reaching Week 7 of the competition after achieving their highest score in Hallowe'en week with an atmospheric Ballroom Tango.

Looking ahead to 2017, Gio has dropped a few tiny hints that he might be planning to tour. He also has a busy programme of teaching and demonstrations, so we can expect plenty of dance-related news to follow and discuss on this thread.

And why not start the thread with a cheerful picture of Gio with Kevin and Alijaz in the Green Room at Strictly last night.

The completely perfect start would be the Official, Definitive Giovanni Big News

But I am guessing that he will update after the Strictly Results show - the pro dancers tend to keep off social media until then.

If anyone spots an update though... please feel free to post.

Great start to the thread, thank you Lady L. Love the friendship between these three. Actually all of the pros seem to get on really well. Gio and Neil's impromptu Cha Cha Cha in the Clauditorium last night was

How lovely, an appreciation thread where Gio will only be appreciated, lol...

I'll add my thanks to LL for setting it up for us. And as it is coming up to Christmas, a link to a nice pic of Santa Gio from last year for us to appreciate!

Absolutely love Giovanni. I was a big fan of Team GG last year. Very happy to see an appreciation thread for him. Thank you LadyLavender

Soooo tempted to be the first to put the boot in

Gentle mocking is allowed on the app thread, isn't it? Is it?

I do love him really. He brings a hard-to-gauge attitude, which isn't boring

How lovely, I've been a fan of Giovanni since he burst onto our screens last year. It was his Otis and Glebs introduction to the show which re-invogorated my interest in Strictly which had been seriously waning for some years.

He didn't have the best luck this year but as he and Oti are one of the few pros I really like.
I've been looking for the New Pros Paso introduction that he Gleb and Oti did last year because that was probably the moment I thought.

'oooh I like him AND him and... yeah the girls good too' But I can't find it. Wasn't great quality (resolution-not the dancing) but yeah they looked hot. I'll keep looking and yeah, yay for Giovanni I hope he stays with the show.

You're welcome. Nice pics- I like Kevin and I'm reminded once again what a fine looking man Aljaz is. He talented too and seems like a lovely person, I like watching him dance but he's never interested me like Giovanni has.

I think that maybe it's like Dervla said above

"He (Giovanni) brings a hard-to-gauge attitude, which isn't boring"

Which some (most of the others this year TBH) don't have.

.A bit more personalty and not the standard Stricyly pro I suppose. In a sea of lovely looking smiling Strictly pros, that's what makes someone more watchable. Gleb had it and so did Tristan= you never know quite how they'll react and I harbour secret liking for ol Brendan for the same reason.

I loved Tristan too. When he was interviewed he didn'always answer the way he was expected to. I like unpredictability. Much more interesting. Gio doesn't always put his cards on the table. I like that too. Equally interesting.

It's always thoroughly entertaining when the pro dancers go slightly off-message and Gio has created a few of those moments in this series. From my point of view, in an increasingly scripted and story-lined show, the odd glimpse of personality helps. Did anyone enjoy Neil Jones and Gio standing on the sofas dancing Cha Cha Cha in the Clauditorium last night? Bonkers. But great fun to watch.

Thanks to everyone for helping launch the thread.

Drums fingers... waits for 6 pm Big News.

Right.... are we all 'exaited'

Let's see if Gio can keep to his 6pm announcement deadline... or whether he will be a bit Italian in his timings....

I love when the pros behave like naughty school children in Claudia's area. I noticed Gio and Neil too. It is so refreshing to see them relaxed and having fun. As you say everything is so scripted now on Strictly and it often gets so emotional.

Terrific news and congratulations to Gio on his new venture.

The tour starts April 26 at the Albany Theatre, Coventry, then continues with two more dates in April. He has announced only 3 dates in May 6/7/8, all in Hertfordshire and Essex.

Then a steady run from 27 June to 23 July, finishing at the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft.

All English venues, unless I have missed a hop into Wales, and mostly in the North.

So a controlled start, time to assess what is working and fine tune the show, before a longer run in June and July. Looks like a good approach.

All smaller venues from a quick look.

And for all London folks... the Beck Theatre, Hayes is an option that is not too far out of the way.

Choosing smaller venues mean that your view of the dancers will very likely be excellent - unlike the O2 experience, where so much depends on your view of a big screen.

Woop woop! Well done to Giovanni on his first tour! Exaiting!!!

Not too much down south but I can definitely do one of those venues. Watching a dance performance in a smaller venue appeals to me much more than a large auditorium so this is a great opportunity.

Intrigued as to who the lady in the photo is. Looks quite like Luba Mushtuk but not sure. Lovely photo anyway
