Not sure how well this tour will do, he's a name but no one else is. He mentioned a GG tour in the past, that is obviously not an option any more. I would probably have gone to the latter if it had ever happened.
I think its comparable to Pasha touring with Anya Garnis - not many remember Anya very clearly from her one season as a pro dancer on the show, so the tickets sell to Pasha fans. It will take a bit of marketing effort - it would be much easier to market a Gio and Jo Clifton tour - or a tour with Gio and either of his celebrity partners. But I don't think even the delights of a summer's day in Skegness would make the latter a possibility.

However as I said before the Strictly pros don't actually earn a great deal from the show so they have to look at other avenues for work. By keeping it to smaller venues Giovanni (or his management) are minimizing the risk. Of course a tour with Georgia would have been much more successful, it was bound to be, but even assuming things had been different and he'd done that, going forward I imagine that at some point Giovanni would want to start forging a future for himself in his career. Giovanni has worked hard to get on Strictly and had some great luck on there and some not so great and now ,like many pros, he's using that TV exposure to promote his talents in order to sell his tour. It may work, it may not but he'll never know if he doesn't try. |

Oh I agree but there are a lot of Strictly pro's doing tours now. I'm not sure what he's USP will be now. But yes he's a dancer and I do wish him luck.

Admittedly that doesn't make Giovanni 'unique' in the USP but hey he's got three appreciation threads on here so... I mean I'd go if it were near me and I could be arsed. |

Oh that might help. There are more well know though particularly Kevin.
Kevin and Karen's tour is booked into larger venues and is a much bigger set up. It looks like something on the scale of Anton and Eriin's tour. So they have the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgo and Nottingham, the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall etc. Big venues, which are expensive to hire, and they are touring with a live 12-piece show band as well as a supporting cast of dancers. That is a lot of cost to cover, so the ticket prices are higher as they need to be. Sounds like it should be a very good show. So... the only venue Kevin and Karen AND Gio's Dance is Life tour have in common is.... Grimsby Auditorium. I had a quick look at the Stalls ticket prices for a comparison. Gio's tour is indeed less expensive. K&K tickets are £38, with a premium ticket at £46 and are pretty much sold out - fab result for K&K on their home territory. Gio is charging £28-30, with £42 for his VIP package for the front two rows. And I can see that someone was very keen to book the front row tickets at Grimsby for Gio. Can't imagine why

A nice little article in Female First about Gio's tour
http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/celebri...-1015211.html? It is based around the press release that he put out yesterday, so no new information on the tour as such. What is very happy change is that the article includes a positive summary of his work with Laura on the show this year, including the tweets exchanged between Jo Clifton and Ore after the dance-off, and Gio's praise for Laura as a contestant. It's rather a relief to read something good-natured about the show. A bit more press like that would be welcome. ![]() And the Female First readership are probably the target market for the tour.

There were quite a few snippets on Snapchat and Insta of the filming of the Christmas Special yesterday.
I was really pleased that Laura was there and seemed to be enjoying herself tremendously, larking around with Ed and the other contestants. This was all post-filming stuff - not part of the actual programme. I didn't spot Daisy or Anastacia (who I think is recording in Sweden at the moment?) but they might simply not have appeared on the clips I saw. So... Laura still on good terms with the Strictly cast and crew, which is very nice to see.

Spoiler
I hope Gio does the Strictly Tour as well, they always seem to confirm the pros last. Lesley will probably need a new partner as Anton tends not to do it (not sure if he ever has). Otherwise I think Ed Balls will be the highlight for me! |

Nice idea Lady L to give Gio his own appreciation thread!!
An innovative & brilliant choreographer, one of the most watchable dancers on the show & a guy who seems to have an effortless way of connecting with his fans!! Despite how it may sometimes seem there is still a lot of appreciaton for the guy on the GG thread as well!! ![]() Hope this thread is a huge success for you all & gives you as much pleasure as the GG thread has given me over the last year or so!! Also hope we can pop between threads to swap information etc in a friendly way as Lady L has done successfully between the GG & Lavanni threads!!

Also hopeful MissD, as he loved that tour so much. I think that Gio and Lesley could be totally hilarious - great scope for Lesley to go 'The Full Dorian' ![]() Quote:
Nice idea Lady L to give Gio his own appreciation thread!! Thank you NDD! I am totally in favour of popping in and out with snippets of news and general random musings. There will be a bit of duplication but in a friendly way so I think the threads will cope with that. The GG thread has been brilliant at picking up information here, there and everywhere. And if either thread had to depend purely on Gio's tweets... well.. it might not be very 'exaiting' reading.

I'll add my thanks to LL for setting it up for us. And as it is coming up to Christmas, a link to a nice pic of Santa Gio from last year for us to appreciate! Giovanni was the reason I joined the Team GG thread and I appreciate him very much so I'll be visiting every dayand thanks hobbit for the lovely picture of Santa Gio ![]() Quote:

I've rolled my eyes a bit in the past at Gio's social media use - particularly when he flooded my timeline with fan retweets appreciating his gorgeous hunky fabulousness etc. So I am Appreciating very much that Gio has taken to Twitter to say thanks to all those who have bought tickets and generally encouraged his tour. It must be a heart in mouth moment when you launch a tour. What if nobody buys a ticket? What if the response to your press launch is .... echoing silence? Real people out there have bought tickets. Must be a good day in Giovanni-Land after some difficult months. Quote:

I'll be popping in and out and I hope some people who used the GG thread come back.
I do think that he is a bit at a crossroads in Strictly in which he will need to rebuild some of his popularity. He had a very good first year no doubt about that, he produced some excellent dances and he supported his dance partner throughout the process. Obviously they had a relationship which is been and gone. His second year was not so successful partly because his partner was not so gifted as a dancer, but also her injury and lack of personal chemistry between them. So for me a successful tour is vital for him for next year, because I do think he will be asked back. He is proven as a teacher from last year and first two partnerships were newsworthy. he gets Strictly on the front pages. If he gets a good partner who can dance or even a female Ed Balls type who he can have fun with. People have short memories and this time next year the events of this year will be distant memories. I have been critical of him and I think he could handled things better then he has. But I still on balance want him to return next year. |

This is a lovely positive forum so I don't want to change that but I have to say I don't agree re Laura and Giovanni's chemistry. That is one of the reasons I liked him this year. I was not a fan last year. I will also quote Giovanni's own words when he and Laura were eliminated ' I shall never never forget this journey'. His words and the way he said it suggested to me it had been a pretty special year for him.

Honestly I think he will want to forget this year. He was just being professional. I was not a fan of Laura or their partnership or lack of it. Anyway my post is about the future.

Chris - I think that's a fair assessment. This year has not gone as well for him as last year, no doubt about that. And I completely agree that last year was a REALLY good year. Georgia was very likeable on the show and that helped him show a warmer side to his personality, which viewers liked in return. So for me a successful tour is vital for him for next year, because I do think he will be asked back. He is proven as a teacher from last year and first two partnerships were newsworthy. he gets Strictly on the front pages. This year Gio hasn't ended up as a Sicilian Kevin (thinks about that image..... ) with two consecutive finals to celebrate. A mid-series finish was respectable, but the controversy around the partnership doesn't help him. Mind you, he is not alone in Kontroversy Korner this year. I think that above all else next year Gio needs to put a great big tick in the Box for Getting On With People so his partner has a happy, sparkly, experience of the show. Maybe he has to start with the Anton patented Pork Pie Lunches ![]() Quote:
I would like to see him with a (maybe older) contestant who needs teaching, and where it's not just automatic to do add that backward bendy thing to every Latin routine; someone he can laugh with as well as working hard. It would be interesting to see how he deals with that kind of partner. It's why I was a bit #QuiveringBottomLip about Brendan getting Anastacia.
Can we just bring back Anastacia next year, rewind and reboot

We will just have to agree to disagree. Time to move on.
Let me put it another way, on Pasha's last tour, he had a little video introduction by Carol Kirkwood, which apparently went down a storm with the audience. Basically 3 minutes of 'Lovely Pasha etc etc etc'. I don't think Gio would ask Laura for one of those. But.. I am often wrong. So the only way to find out is to buy a ticket for the tour.
