I think that Gio and Laura did start well enough but it all went a bit pear-shaped under the stress of the injury in Jive week. Despite that, they produced a fab Hallowe'en Tango which was one of my highlights of the series.
Let me put it another way, on Pasha's last tour, he had a little video introduction by Carol Kirkwood, which apparently went down a storm with the audience. Basically 3 minutes of 'Lovely Pasha etc etc etc'. I don't think Gio would ask Laura for one of those. Chemistry is subjective but I think that Giovanni got on well enough with Laura but their partnership was put under strain by the press and their bad luck. Talking to RL fans of the show I also think that Giovanni is pretty popular. On the boards and forums, twiter Instangram and other places online it's easy for me to get too embroiled in all the backstage and personal stuff but generally I find that even quite keen viewers don't know most of the gossip-they just know that they like (or fancy ) certain pros, find them funny or nice or just really like their dancing. Very few seem to know or care what happens privately, apart from the snippets they read in the press and I would imagine that goes for the vast majority of viewers. I know Giovanni seems like he's come in for some criticism but I think that the more hardcore fans are a relatively small minority of the shows viewership. So as I said, Giovanni seems pretty popular to most I speak to in RL and that can only add to his advantage in selling tour tickets. |

i am only here because of his partnership with Laura. I loved watching them dance. I think Laura and Giovanni's relationship has been discussed on Giovanni's other appreciation forums many times. I think every thing that has been said has already been said so I am disappointed it has been ontroduced again. I thought this forum was meant to focus on Giovanni's future projects.

Lovely Carol indeed. She started out by saying 'I want ALIJAZ' when asked about pairings... settled for Pasha
with good grace and plodded through her routines with an engaging smile despite having a nasty flu for at least two weeks. She might have been frankly a bit rubbish...and a doppelganger for the QEII at times... but she never looked nervous or needy and I liked her enormously for that. You are right - I think Gio is popular in RL.... he will have had 4 months in front of 12 million viewers... that should make you enough fans to sell out the Grimsby Auditorium and its 26 friends on his tour. To most viewers, if they remember him, its probably as the hot Italian that took over that particular job from Vincent. |

Sorry, but I slightly disagree, I don't think that previous dance partners should be off limits. I haven't (and wouldn't) say anything particularly negative about Laura or Georgia, but being as how they were both Giovannis partner then they are bound to be mentioned when talking about him in his appreciation thread. They were both a major part of his Strictly experience and either or both patrnerships are a large part of why many of us like Giovanni.

To mention his Strictly partners is one thing going over the same old arguments is a waste of time and should be discussed on their other forums if it has to be discussed at all. It is not as if anything new has emerged. I was so happy when this thread was set up as it was to focus on Giovanni moving on to his new projects. |

I think that Laura and Georgia as dance partners are definitely on topic as you said - but just inside the Strictly world. Chris was talking mostly about next year and what the outlook is for Gio, which is absolutely fair enough. I think that Gio has had two young, attractive contestants - I would like to see him with a different style of partner for a change, but someone teachable. But preferably someone who has a full tank of jolly smiley positivity. And a bit of rhythm. Yes, Yvette Cooper MP aka Mrs Balls - I am looking at you. ![]() Edit: Issfan - just seen your post. Yes we should avoid old arguments. Completely agree and your point is correct

You didn't have to reply. I barley mentioned their partnership.. It's pretty obvious he had a better year last year then this I would have thought. But mainly I talked about next year. Gio had a much better year than Gorka in those terms - I hope Gorka is back next year for another shot. Can't believe I am already talking about next year. Must get a grip

I think Issfan thought that we - well me anyway - was straying into the 'relationship analysis' territory.. a rap on the knuckles for that is quite right.

Sometimes appreciation threads develop a bit of a clique mentality and talk of 'outsiders' and 'visitors' can creep in but in fact they don't belong to anyone and anyone from DS can post in any appreciation thread so long as the contribution is relevant to the subject and broadly positive. So anything related to Giovanni is OK. For example the subject of Giovanni's romance has been endlessly debated-if ( the proverbial flogged horse of THAT subject is not only dead- it's a mere stain on the floor by now) but hey, it's still a valid subject if people want it to be. It's not for me but then if it doesn't interest me then I don't reply. |

I picked up a bit from Laura's Snapchats and a few people's Instagram stories - was it Gethin's? It looked like the larking around was in the Green room and also on the dance floor after the filming had finished - you could see audience in the background.

It strikes me that he is one of the pros that is still learning and adapting - so I think he will come back with the benefit of a bit of reflection over the off-Strictly season. Does he need to reflect a leetle bit? Yes.

Yes agree he needs to do that. Teaching, dancing he's among the best. But the off the dance floor stuff has caught him out which surprises me considering he has a showbiz agent.
![]() This Christmas break post-Strictly will be a good time to 'catch a breath'. |

I too hope he returns. Strictly certainly helps to raise the profiles of the pros so if he wants to continue touring being on Strictly would help him.
That question will come up on EVERY date of Gio's tour.

If people want to talk about Giovanni and Lauras dances, partnership and or chemistry then they can and the same goes for Georgias partnership with Giovanni. It doesn't particularly interest me but it's not against the rules of an appreciation thread. In fact so far as I recall (it's been years since Ap threads were first set up in DS and I could be wrong) the only person who is exempt from harsh criticism is the person(s) with their name(s) in the thread title. There's always been a sort of unwritten rule that they avoid being really critical of anyone else on the show too though. I remember Jay came for some gentle ribbing in the GG thread last year but it wasn't strong criticism as most posters really liked him.

Ha I've already tweeted them! They just suggested bearish but not that near really esp as I don't drive venues. Grr. I'll just have to petition him to perform in my living room!

Mind you, it's a bit to think that Laura, at 31, literally was the 'older woman' in this year's partnership.
