Looking at the whole Strictly experience, you joined last year, you had seen the show on the TV, what is it like to be part of it on TV?
For me it is absolutely the dream come true. I love being part of Strictly come Dancing. I never thought in my life I would be part of something that big. I have always been a professional dancer, always been part of the competition world, and I never thought I would be part of the biggest show in the UK. So I am really, really lucky.
When you were growing up in Sicily, was it always dance for you?
I was always dancing all my life. I have been dancing now for almost 20 years. I have never stopped. Being here now is like 'Wow' (laughs) It is something that I have achieved and I hope it will never stop.
You are about to do a UK tour next year. That is the power of Strictly , suddenly people are stopping you in the street and asking for selfies and autographs. I bet that never happened before.
Never (laughs). I never thought that. But to be honest with you, I absolutely love it. When people recognise you on the street, it is because of the show but I always say that I want people to recognise me as a good dancer, not as a TV personality, because that is what we are. I am speaking about my colleagues as well, we want that people recognise us as professional dancers, as good dancers. And now doing my own tour, that people are buying tickets to come and watch me dance, is something else. It really, really pleases me.
What have you got planned for your tour?
I am doing my tour around the UK, which I never thought to do! (Laughs) Never, never, seriously, never. It looks great. We are selling a lot of tickets for Christmas, as Christmas presents, and it's going good. I am really nervous, but really excited as well.
Yes.. the thing is – it's your tour isn't it (laughs)?
Yes exactly. So every time I see my name I think 'It's not me'! It is petrifying because, they come to watch me, they don't come to watch Strictly, they come to watch me, so I need to be good, every single night.
Well, I am sure it isn't a problem. Just out of interest you mention that you dance all the time, I imagine your constant worry is an injury or something
Yes. We are still human so we can injure ourselves. Hopefully not! You need to be careful all the time. We will dance a lot. There will be 15 routines so it is going to be really hard and really difficult. I have an amazing team around me and they will look after me.
15 routines! That is a lot to remember.
Maybe more! It is not just chatting or music, we are going to tell a story – there is no microphone between the audience and the dancers – it will be just dancing.
Wow – that sounds powerful Now finally, as we get to the final.. you have had that experience, it is going to be a bit strange without Len isn't it, as he leaves this year.
Len is Len, and we are going to miss him so much, because Len is the biggest part of the show. I have been there for 2 years and I am going to miss him so much.
It will be interesting to see who takes over!
I can't wait to see who is going to judge me next year! So we will see. I am really excited, well all of us are really excited, to know who is going to be the next one..
On the subject of judging, what is it like to face Craig the first time - it must be terrifying.
Actually, Craig is not really how he appears on television. He is actually one of the most fun people I have ever met in my life. He is just on the show sometimes a little bit grumpy, he is funny. The first time on the show I was more petrified of Len than Craig. If you remember last year I had a small thing (laughs) with Len about my rumba – he wanted just a little bit more content. I learned a lesson! But I was new last year so I didn't know what the judge really wants. So for me Len really helped me, but Craig, Bruno and Darcy are all amazing. You have watched the show, you can see they are all beautiful people.
